10 Things you Did Not Know about the Philippines
I decided to make up my own mind about this country. A lot of people talk about the Philippines as a luxury destination, where they would like to return in the future. Why? I set off to find the answer to this question and it was all very interesting for me. I started to pack, bought a last moment ticket and went to seek adventure. I unexpectedly found here 10 things that I had no idea about the Philippines and I that I would like to share now with you.
1. A gentle introduction. The Philippines are composed of more than 7,000 islands. Some of the islands are concealed under the sea water surface and only appear occasionally.
2. The main language of the Philippines is called "tagalog," but each island has various own dialects. There is a total of 171 dialects. I can guarantee that you will understand none, though a tiny effort in the form of a few Spanish words could have been registered. When they talk, it sounds rather wild!
3.The Filipinos are extremely, really extremely friendly. Do not worry, if they invite you to their home! They will ply you with luxury food and they will never want to let you go.
4. The Philippines are named after the King of Spain, Philip II.
5. The local delicacy is "balot" & "tamilok," would you order a chicken with a worm? Bon appetite!
6. The favourite national game is basketball. On each corner you will see a pitch or a basket, even in absolutely impossible places. I have even seen a playground in the mountains - it was up the hill! How does one play there?
7. What do the Filipinos excel in? The karaoke! Even those who probably should never sing join in, but they are kind, entertaining and know how to enjoy themselves. In every home and B&B there is a karaoke jukebox, which they do not hesitate to switch on at 2:00 a.m. to try again their hit and then go to sleep.
8. At a restaurant you can buy a main course and a drink for less than 40 crowns. Isn´t that a luxury? However, the location is important.
9. Rice everywhere you look. Would you enjoy rice 5 times a day and then rice as a dessert? And what about a snack? Rice again!
10. Filipino women belong among the most beautiful women in the world!
