The whole world knows her surname. Pavlína Jágrová is the niece of the most famous hockey player on the planet, Jaromír Jágr. The young blogger sees little of the hockey god, but when they do meet up, it’s allegedly worth it. Although Jaromír is pushing fifty, he is apparently just as crazy as she is. In an interview for Luxury Prague Life, the young blogger lifted the veil of secrecy of the famous family, and showed off her new job and love.

Pavlína, when I hear your name I immediately think of your fashion blog. How long has it been running?

More than six years. It has over thirty thousand followers in Instagram. It was my dream to make a living of it, and in the past few years I really have. It has been working for the past four years. But recently, I’ve discovered that blogging and the world of fashion no longer give me as much as before. So I decided that I would continue making money from it, and enjoying the benefits, but that I’d like to move on.

Where to?

I really love food. I spend most of my free time at restaurants or cafes. In fact, I never eat at home.

So you’re a café lounger...

Yes, a bit (laughs). So I’ve decided to make use of this fact. I sent my CV to Ambiente, which is one of my favourite restaurant chains which I regularly visit.

What are you going to do there, cook?

No. I will be responsible for social networks. They hired me and I start in August. So my work won’t really change very much, but it will move me to another place, a different segment. Away from fashion.

Do you cook at all?

Sure, I love cooking, but obviously I rarely do. I have to have the desire and people to cook for. There is no point cooking for myself. I don’t enjoy that. It’s a waste of time to cook for one person. I like to cook for my boyfriend and friends.

I noticed that you don’t keep track of the calories you eat or drink, yet you’re very slim…

Look, I really don’t worry about it, I don’t keep any diets. I never have. My opinion is that if I give my body everything it asks for, it will be happy. When I feel like having something sweet, I do. I don’t get fat. I go to the gym sporadically, for good measure. When I feel like it, I go. Sometimes I go running, but rarely. I have no idea how my metabolism works. I can’t imagine having to restrict myself in some way, and least of all in food, because I love food.

Will you have any meal benefits if you work for Ambiente? You had better pay off!

I assume I will! (laughs)

When you started your blog, you mainly wanted to travel, But now you will be employed here, so you’re out of luck, no? You don’t want to travel anymore?

I like to travel, but that doesn’t mean I want to be in a different country every day like some foreign bloggers. I like attending fashion events, shows, festivals, but only once in a while. A trip several times per year is fine. But I’m a patriot, I love Prague. And I can’t imagine living elsewhere permanently.

Are you invited to the show or do you have to pay for them?

No way, I’m always invited and everything is paid for. The last invitation was from Chanel. That was amazing, super. It was the presentation of a new perfume.

Like every women, you must long to have a few pieces at home. Women used to yearn for a Louis Vuitton handbag. How about you?

Louis Vuitton is not a brand that I particularly desire. It’s different for everybody. I bought all the handbags I ever longed for. My favourite brands are Balenciaga, Céline, Alexander Wang.

Have you ever met any of these people?

Sure, for instance Alexander Wang. It was a few years ago at the presentation of the collection when H&M collaborated with Margiella. I met him there by accident, but a nice one. We didn’t even speak, I didn’t say anything, but I was thrilled.

It’s interesting what kind of encounter makes you happy, yet you’re from the family of the God of hockey. Everybody must want to meet Jaromír Jágr. Do your friends ask about him?

If course they ask. They want to meet him, but that’s not possible. If I were to arrange a meeting with my uncle with every friend of mine, he would do nothing else. They understand that it’s not possible. Sometimes somebody asks me whether he could autograph a jersey, poster or puck, various things. But I definitely don’t arrange meetings.

What’s it like when you get together as a family?

He just came home so we all got together right away. I haven’t seen him since I went to Florida in April. The meetings are always great, I take him more as a friend or brother. We don’t have an uncle/niece relationship. It’s probably because he’s nuts. He’s closer to me in terms of age (laughs).

Do you advise him about clothes, hair?

I used to try, but since he’s been with Veronika, I think he dresses well. She taught him.

That reminds me that Veronika buys clothes in America, offers it on Instagram and sells it in the Czech Republic. What do you think of this?

Yes, she has an e-shop. I’m not really interested in it, that’s her business. She doesn’t consult me. I took a photo occasionally when she needed it, but we’ve never dealt with this business together. It’s not something I would do. If anything, I’d like to have a few pieces of my own that I would sell. Or on the other hand I would focus on interiors, because in addition to fashion and food, I really like interior design.

You seem to have a wide range of interests.

Yes. I’m the kind of person who likes more than one thing. I need to have a range of interests to fulfil me.

Do you follow trends at all?

Not really. I’m not the type that goes and buys everything that’s in fashion for the given season. I don’t really even like shopping. I’ve created my own style. Don’t ask me to describe it. In short, I wear a lot of oversize things, sweatshirts, large dresses, large t-shirts, skinny jeans, I wear a lot of sneakers…

What do you think of Františka Čížková?

You know, I’ve never even met her and she’s never judged me. So I don’t know. But I think she definitely understands it to a certain degree.

What about beauty? Do you go for facial, to the hairdresser?

No, not for facials. I just got a voucher for the Lancôme Institute, so I will most likely go there. I don’t even go to the hairdresser. I’ve never dyed my hair. A friend of mine cuts my hair. The fact is that whenever I’ve gone to a hairdresser’s, I’ve never liked the result. I did go to Martina Matyášová recently, she is super. I would go there again, if the friend who does makeup and cuts hair doesn’t have time.

What do you think about plastic surgery? There is nothing artificial about you, not even a nail.

Look, I’ve sort of come to terms with everything. I used to think I have small breasts, when I was around fifteen. Now I like it more than having large breasts. So I’m satisfied. But if somebody isn’t and they know it would help boost their self-confidence, then I’m all for it. It mustn’t be excessive, like when women with beautiful breasts get massive balloons.

What do you like to spend money on?

Food. Most of my money is spent on food. Because I eat out. Mainly at Ambiente or Eska in Karlín. I have a number of favourite restaurants. I love practically all pizzerias. I don’t know how much money I eat through every month. I prefer not to count. But because I don’t spend much on fashion and cosmetics, I can afford to spend more on food.

Do you get clothing for free?

Most of my things are sponsored. But if I go to Berlin once every two or three months (it’s my favourite place to shop), then I naturally spend my own money. I can spend 300 euros at once there.

Only?

It’s enough for me. I don’t go to expensive shops. I have my favourites.

You mentioned a boyfriend…

We’ve been together a few months.

Are you in love?

Right now, incredibly. I feel like I’ve met the person I’ve been looking for. I kept meeting people, and there was always something I wasn’t satisfied with. I was never sure. And now I am absolutely happy.

Have you introduced him to your parents?

Not yet. The whole family knows about him of course, but I haven’t introduced him yet.

Does he want to be introduced?

Definitely. I’m already planning it…

He will doubtless want to meet your uncle too, now that he’s here.

Of course, he’s a huge fan. I will definitely introduce them over the summer. There hasn’t been time until now. My entire family is busy and he’s at work all the time too…

Will you tell us more about him?

No, if only because of him I won’t say anything more. We’ve been together a little while and it’s really nice.

Tell me what you’re planning for summer.

I will probably be working a lot, even though I start in August. I am planning to visit Berlin for some shopping and partying. Not much else.

What about the seaside with your boyfriend?

Probably in autumn. It looks like we will go to Tenerife in the end.

What do you like doing by the sea? Do you do any of those sports, like paddle-boarding?

Not really. I happen to be afraid of water. I mean, I do go for a swim. But to dive into the water? No. I had an experience in a child where I almost drowned, so it took me a long time to restore my confidence with water, to swim at all.

I’m interested in your travels. Aren’t you afraid of terrorists?

No, I’m not. What’s more, I don’t follow the news, I don’t read newspapers, nothing. Of course if something happens I find out from Facebook, but I am precisely the type of person who would end up not going anywhere. So I don’t follow it.

You don’t follow politics either…

When I was in university, I did follow politics, but I can’t influence it anyway, they will always do whatever they want. I can’t affect it. So I don’t follow it, in order to avoid getting angry.

You’re an entrepreneur. You should be interested in what Babiš comes up with.

My mother is an accountant. She takes care of everything. She’s the one who keeps track (laughs).

Now that’s also interest, your mother. There have been tomes published about Jaromír, but nobody knows about your mother.

My mother is not somebody who wants to be written about. I have no problem saying a bit about her. She’s a big hockey fan and watches Jaromír’s matches. She knows everything about hockey. Her relationship with Jaromír not just sisterly, but even a bit motherly. She is six years older than him and also takes care of his accounting and his business here. When Jaromír is in America, she deals with everything here for him. So I get the feeling that she is half his sister, half his mother.

To conclude. You are in love, you have a new job and you’re going shopping. Is there anything else you’d like at present?

I’ve just realised that for the first time in my life I am incredibly happy. It hasn’t happened before, but now I feel it. Of course there are other things I’d like in the future. If they happened, it would be absolute happiness. Ideal. By dream is… in a couple of years, I don’t think I’m ready for it yet, but I’d love to have my own café. I would open a café or some kind of bistro.

Good luck and thanks for the interview.
