Valentino FW 18/19

A stroll through a blossoming garden

During the luxury Valentino FW 18/19 fashion show the catwalk in Paris was transformed into a romantic flower garden. There is no need to search from where did Pierpaolo Piccioli draw his inspiration. Nearly a third of the entire collection consists of flower-themed pieces and the rest are luxury minimalist models of varied bold or subdued tones.

Pierpaolo Piccioli balanced out the decorative flowers by attractive minimalism

Although the creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, possesses a gift of striking creativity, fundamentally he remains faithful to tasteful and simple elegance. If you see a stylish item thoughtfully recreated in an innovative manner, it will probably be by Valentino. It is precisely in such a way that the simpler pieces of the upcoming season were designed, providing perfect balance between the extravagant blooms and attractive minimalism.

Did Valentino perhaps start to design hairdressing capes?

The autumn collection consists of day and evening dresses, trousers, overalls, coats and, what is for the luxury fashion house a relatively unusual wardrobe item - capes. We don´t consider them to be a too happy choice, because they do make an impression of a hairdresser's salon cape - albeit a luxurious one. So if you do not want to appear as though you have just gone out for a minute while having a blow-dry, we recommend that you leave it to someone else.

A modern take on Red Riding Hood

What we do tremendously enjoy are the colours that Pierpaolo Piccioli selected for the upcoming season - peony red, fuchsia, coral, nude, lavender, cyan, emerald green, pale pink, ochre, red, white as well black. The range is incredibly varied. The interesting piece of extravagance for which Valentino deserves thumbs-up, are coats featuring voluminous hoods. The models remind you of a modern version of Red Riding Hood and such playfulness is what a catwalk definitely calls for!

Three trivial ideas about nothing at all

Valentino and its collection factory - how else would you explain such short intervals between the shows (less than two months)?! Unfortunately, in my opinion this short period is reflected in lack of invention and quality and that is a great pity when it concerns such a reputable brand.

Let´s just recap the paltry ideas that really DIDN´T CONTRIBUTE ANYTHING new:

1. Monstrous polo-neck, monolithic, boring floor-length dresses: did the Valentino team just sit down with a cup of coffee and sketched out a green blot as if in a kindergarten?!

2. Dresses of varied colours with giant semi-circle hems; these remind me of those cheap Easter market tablecloths which don´t need to be ironed. For goodness sake why?!

3. Head scarves: they do not resemble cute Riding Hood strolling through the wood at all. I see women workers greedy for sex in a haystack from the Slušovice standard farming cooperative and that´s that!

So if you are looking for a time machine, you are sure to choose at Valentino´s. It´s not even worth the effort of rolling my eyes!
