Belfast – Birth of the immortal story of the Titanic

The historical building which is the “birthplace” of the Titanic has been reopened. Visitors can view drawings, the lobby, the director’s entrance and the fully refurbished offices of the architects in chief of the Titanic. The Titanic Hotel Belfast opened its gates to the public at the start of October 2017, welcoming among others fascinated fans of history. The hotel is located in the former headquarters of Harland & Wolff. Although the ship itself sank more than 105 years ago, its legacy lives on thanks to the film of this unforgettable event.

The story and all of the events played out around the tragic day 15 April 1912. The Titanic hit an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York.

Thanks to its superb location, the hotel offers 119 rooms with a view, capturing the wealth of shipbuilding history in Belfast. The hotel boasts luxurious and exclusive rooms, several suites and a penthouse. It has its own bar, function room and luxury exhibition space. For enthusiasts, there is a permanent exhibition showcasing a collection of more than 500 works of art, artefacts and photographs. Remarkable artistic creations also adorn the interior. An example of this is the Villeroy & Boch tiles which surround the main hotel bar. They are identical to the tiles used in the swimming pools and first-class bathrooms on the Titanic.

A luxurious interior in an Art Deco style

The accommodation part has been created in a style inspired by the shipbuilding age, the “Golden Age of Steel Lines”. Bedrooms have sophisticated Art Deco furniture and maritime touches appear here throughout, hanging ship’s lanterns, rivetted panels and other unique maritime works of art can be found in each and every room. You will also be enthralled by the magnificent Victorian drawings in the high-ceilinged three-level rooms with unique cylindrical arched ceilings which are the only surviving example of this type of architecture in the world.
