A luxurious breed from ancient China

This breed, which is more than 5000 years old, is nowadays regarded as a legend. Over the course of history, these dogs were regarded as brave and wise warriors and were used as war dogs. They later became a mascot for people, many of whom even worshipped them. This was in particular due to their intelligence, strength of will and endurance. You can even come across claims that they are reincarnated monks who lived here over the ages.

It is precisely the Tibetan Mastiff which stands at the very pinnacle of the imaginary rankings of all mastiffs. And according to historical statistics, breeds such as the St. Bernard, the Great Dane and the Newfoundland dog are in fact descendants of the Tibetan Mastiff.

The Tibetan Mastiff: the most expensive dog in the world

Sale was recently registered of a red Tibetan Mastiff which was 11 months old called Big Splash (“Hong Dong” in Chinese) for USD 1.5 million to a coal baron from China. And this is by far not the only such case. A few years ago, a woman from China bought one of these dogs which she sent 30 black luxury Mercedes-Benz cars to collect.

A shaggy and powerful status symbol

The Tibetan Mastiff if a symbol of luck for the Chinese which is why the upper class there are willing to pay exorbitant sums for it, despite the fact that in our country you can for example buy a puppy for a mere CZK 5,000.

However, owning a dog like this represents a powerful status symbol for the extremely wealthy. This is why people like to say that the things a wealthy man in China absolutely must have are a luxury Lamborghini, a beautiful wife and a Tibetan Mastiff.
