Take a trip to Vyšehrad to see some design! We visited Czech Design Week.
It appear that Czechs hunger for unusual and original designer items. You could think that following Designblok, Czech Design Week cannot offer anything new. But that is not true, you will find deluxe designer gems even here at the Congress Centre. The truth is that some brands will be exhibiting repeatedly, but we also saw many items for the first time.
There is a comfortable ambiance in the Congress Centre at Vyšehrad. This is a more intimate trade fair at which you can visit approx. 70 stands with deluxe designer creations and there is also a coffee shop and bar. It wasn't at all hectic, at least on the first day, and fans of design were able to view interesting works in peace. But in order to whet your appetite you can find 3 designs below, which even we were amazed by. One of those was comfortable, another timeless and the third cosmic! Here they are:
Comfortable: chairs made from basalt
We absolutely fell in love with the chairs from the Black Series. They look amazing and are made using a special basalt melting process. They are unbelievably strong (allegedly even stronger than steel), they can be hung from a tree and are truly comfortable to sit in. The author is Raimonds Cirulis from Lithuania and no one else makes furniture from this material.
Timeless: an audio-system made from sandstone
Yes, you heard me right! The primary material is sandstone, the technology is 3D printing and the result is excellent sound. The small Deeptime studio is behind the excellent design of this audio system with shell-shaped speakers. This is the first product made by this brand and we have to say that is truly excellent! This is actually the first audioset in the world to be made from sandstone using 3D printing technology.
Cosmic: rings linked to the solar system
Helioring is a brand that makes rings based on linking the actual jewellery to the solar system. You don’t believe us? We will explain: you have an important date – for instance a wedding or the birth of a child. There is a special programme capable of displaying the positions of the planets on that exact day. And these planetary positions are simply transferred to the ring. The planets are depicted as either holes or stones. The more expensive version is made using diamonds and every date creates a unique jewel!
