The tendency to return to legendary phenomena was demonstrated once again by Philipp Plein during the Milan Fashion Week. The last year´s collection of SS18 was inspired by Grease, presented by a gang of boy racers and heartbreakers, headed by Danny Zuko; this year, too, the luxury German fashion designer let himself be inspired by a striking personality - the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
Philipp Plein makes no secret of the fact that Michael Jackson was his lifetime icon. And no wonder. He belongs to one of the few personalities who actually significantly changed the direction of musical history, besides winning fame also through his fantastic outfits. White socks in moccasins, tough leather belts with metal clasps or leather jackets - is there anyone who would not associate these luxurious pieces with the king of pop?
What do we enjoy about the whole of the luxury collection the most? The fact that it is not just purely going in the footsteps of the king of pop, but also because of the certain dose of rebellion and rock'n'roll. For example the sporty black-and-white sweatshirt with a red inscription ´Philipp Plein´ is not very reminiscent of Michael Jackson in itself, but for example in combination with the aforementioned belt this model has a tough side to it straight away, as well as real spark.
And what else has Philipp Plein prepared for you in his SS19 collection? Luxurious suits and shirts, biker jackets, leather and torn trousers or loose tops. As regards accessories, Philipp Plein presented ankle-high sneakers, biker shoes, shoulder bags, hats, baseball caps, but also men´s jewellery in the form of striking rings and bold bracelets. So, if your man comes to a date with you wearing more jewellery than you, you can write it down to Philipp Plein…
The men´s collection of Philipp Plein for SS19, celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the firm already sounds as if it will be something special... Certainly, inspiration by Michael Jackson was to be seen in a number of other brands. Therefore, I did not expect anything much special. And how did Philipp Plein fare this time round?
The interesting concept of punk style with classic formal suits is an absolute HIT! I must add that this collection is acceptable for men up to a maximum of 35 years of age and not a month. And so at first glance I fell in love with the black suit with interesting punk silver socks, perfectly matching the black shoes, which were not short of tacks and spikes. This is such a provocative and at the same time absolutely unobtrusive element that it is beyond belief. Some important party, a ball or a posh event? I think that you can dare to wear it almost anywhere. Simply original.
Perhaps the only piece, which I would veto is the black jacket with blazing flames. The era of carousel style of the 80´s should be buried once and for all. Some things are better left alone. Thank you very much!
The greatest HIT and the greatest FLOP of this collection according to Ornella is to be found at the beginning of the photo gallery below the article.
