The unique St. Moritz region has become a place of winter tourism and winter sports. It hosted the Winter Olympics in 1928 and 1948 and is becoming popular as a venue for some of the most important winter competitions. This year, among other things, it will also be hosting the Alpine World Ski Championships for the fifth time.
Since 1907, spectators have been able to feast their eyes on the luxurious game of snow polo which is played on the frozen Lake St. Moritz. This is the very first place where people started to play snow polo. Since that time, it has also been played in various locations around the world: Aspen in the USA, Cortina in Italy and Tianjin in China. St. Moritz does however remain the place where the most prestigious snow polo tournament is held every year.
The European Cup in snow polo will be taking place from 27 until 29 January. The whole tournament will culminate with the final and match to decide third and fourth place on Sunday. Elite players and their powerful horses will be meeting up on the frozen lake here. Spectators will thus be able to watch their concentration, dexterity, courage and endurance, all of this playing out in a unique location 1,850 metres above sea level.
St. Moritz is synonymous with unique sporting and recreation activities, cultural atmosphere, luxury shopping and events of global importance. All of this goes hand in hand with luxury accommodation and an excellent offer of restaurants.
This unique winter event thus offers visitors a combination of luxury, elegant sport and an amazing winter atmosphere. Allow yourself to be enticed by photographs from previous years in our gallery.
