Shocking Haute Couture collection from Paris: Maison Margiela AW 2018
Avant-garde style bids farewells to ruffles and big gowns
French brand Maison Margiela, founded in 1988 by Belgian designer Martin Margiela, doesn’t quite fit the standard we’re used to seeing and world fashion weeks. It does not particularly indulge in fluffy ruffles or classic beauty, as confirmed by the latest Haute Couture AW 2018 collection, which again boast the spirit of avant-garde and unconventional designs.

Unconventional materials, i.e. luxury fashion using what was available!
We have ascertained several times that luxury fashion worthy of the most prestigious shows can be made of practically anything. Of instance, when the world’s runways were flooded with plastic or latex. Maison Margiela, headed by British-Spanish designer John Galliano, who has been the creative director since 2014, also opted for non-standard materials.
John Galliano finally put his creativity in full gear
In the past, John Galliano worked as the lead designer at French luxury fashion houses Christian Dior and Givenchy, and had to keep to the beaten track, but in creating garments for Maison Margiela, he can really let his creativity loose.

In the AW 2018 collection, John Galliano follows the parallel between timeless nomad and follower of the digital age. The results of this comparison are bold garments full of innovative chains, volumes and layers. There are also striking straps, which makes us wonder: are we looking at premium fashion or luxurious straightjackets?

The craziest thing Haute Couture Fashion Week offered!
French Haute Couture according to Belgian designer Margiela? Definitely the craziest thing of all at this year’s Paris Fashion Week! I am surprised, and don’t quite understand how this brand has survived for thirty years. Because the bizarreness runs not just in Haute Couture, but in the style of the brand overall…
After some contemplation, however, I remembered that even we have several lovers of crazy fashion, who would definitely like some of the items from this collection (so there are surely fans). The first person I recalled is actress Anna Linhartová. Should would doubtless love to wear the purple SciFi dress with the helmet and a bit of plastic underneath.
She might even go for the rainbow dress, which goes under the code name straightjacket. It’s so different and cool... And it’s just right for an ethereal and artistic soul like Anna’s.
