Buddha-Bar luxury hotels date back to 1996, when the first renowned Buddha-Bar restaurant, founded by Raymond Visan, was established. His creativity seemed almost endless. He wanted to go beyond the limits of established standards, and succeeded. He was inspired by the countries he had traveled and the cultures he knew. Buddha-Bar Hotels are located in Paris, Budapest and Prague.
Raymond Visan would have surely accomplished so much more if he had not died at the age of 60 in 2010. Among hoteliers he is considered a legend. He is buried in the Montparnasse cemetery. his wife Tarja Visan determinedly took over the reins and “Voyage within voyage”, which is the motto of the Buddha Bar, could be further fulfilled.
Tarja Visan comes from Finland, but in the 1980s she moved to France and her career began as a model. She traveled the world and discovered beautiful lands. She was fascinated by different cultures and lifestyles. In 1986 she married Raymond Visan. Since then, they have traveled together and have loved, among other things, Japanese culture, which has led them to create a concept that blends Eastern and Western cultures. In terms of food, architecture and design.
Together, they founded 4 icons of Paris nightlife: B*Fly (now Bound), Buddha-Bar, Barrio Latino and Barlotti. Their passion for music also led to the creation of the music label George V Record, which this enterprising couple is responsible for. The Buddha-Bar CD collection is a world standard today, and maybe you also own a luxury CD with exotic music and a buddha on the cover.
Tarja Visan is a strong woman with a business spirit, and is boldly launching other projects. We will soon be seeing the opening of new hotels and spas. In 2007, she opened her first Buddha-Bar Spa in Eian-les Bains, which she found inspiration for while traveling in the Himalayas after Indonesia.
