The show of the best from the music field, which had its beginnings at Prague Castle during the Václav Havel era, can literally direct Czech musicians to the Grammy Award. Aren’t you curious about what this year’s Strings of Autumn will or can offer you?
The mission of the festival is to provide unusual and unique artistic experiences, to additionally enrich the Czech cultural scene and to broaden the horizons of its audiences. What cannot be denied about the festival is that since its inception in 1996 the Strings of Autumn International Music Festival has made a major contribution towards transforming the cultural map of the Capital City. The Festival’s founders, Marek Vrabec and his colleagues have created a festival that is both simply and luxuriously unique. The Strings of Autumn constitutes a meeting place not only for lovers of classical music, jazz, world music, country, hip-hop, but also for crossover projects, the overall link between which is simply their uncompromising artistic quality.
“Strings of Autumn” offers musical experiments for which few dramaturges find sufficient courage.” Václav Havel
This luxurious festival commences on the 20th October in a variety of locations in Prague and runs until the 9th November. There are 10 great concerts that are on offer for you. The 21st annual event will be initiated at the Karlín Forum, where “The Gloaming”, an Irish-American group, will pick-up the imaginary initial “baton”. On the 9th November, the biggest star of the festival - Herbie Hancock - composer, virtuoso and pianist - will be performing.
The programme specifically features The Gloaming, Shabazz Palaces. This band is profiled as a hip-hop entity, whose poetic, sometimes almost mystical texts, can also blend with sophisticated electronics, African percussion and/or jazz. Lambchop, as a band with Kurt Wagner as its charismatic frontman, transforms the understanding of what country music is and what the instruments that are traditionally associated with it can actually do. Gavin Bryars will also be arriving with his Nothing Like the Sun project, which will immerse you in Shakespeare’s luxurious and poetic sonnets as an impulse and an inspiration for a truly amazing piece. Jason Moran - pianist, composer, jazz adventurer, visionary and conceptualist (all-in-one) will also be there to attract your attention in his own very distinct manner. Richard Galliano and Radek Baborák – a horn player and an accordionist, a duo whose synergy when they play together promises an unforgettable experience. Multi-instrumentalist Jiří Slavík will join forces with Marian Friedl & VUS Ondráš, while Herbie Hancock the luxurious icon of modern music, will inevitably shine and Ralph Towner and Julia Wolfe will also be present just to enliven the festival that little bit more!!
