The Painted Bird crushed the Czech Lion Awards! The best actress is Tereza Ramba
It's decided. The crystal Czech Lion statues have their owners. The awards ceremony took place in Prague's Rudolfinum. The Czech Film and Television Academy presented most of them to the favored film The Painted Bird from director Václav Marhoul. The powerful story of a small Jewish boy trying to survive during the Second World War captured the hearts of many spectators, it is therefore no wonder that it also rocked this year's Czech Lion Awards. Let's take a closer look at the other winners!
The Painted Bird completely stole this year's 27th Czech Lion Awards by receiving eleven nominations and turning eight of them into wins in the form of a crystal statue. The academics didn't have it easy this time. They had to choose from 64 feature films, documentary films and animated films.
Best female and male performance
Tereza Ramba brought home the statuette for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the film Owners, while Jiří Schmitzer became the Best Actor in a Leading Role this year, for his film Old-Timers.
The actress Klára Melíšková can also be happy about receiving her own crystal Lion. She won in the category Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Mrs. Roubíčková in Owners. The actor Ladislav Mrkvička received the same award in the male category - you can see him in the film Old-Timers.
According to the academics, this year's award for Best Director was best deserved by Václav Marhoul for his film The Painted Bird. Vladimír Smutný received an award for Best Cinematography for the very same film; another award went to Jan Vlasák Best Stage Design and to Helena Rovná for Best Costume Design. The Painted Bird also boasts the Best Film Award.
The Lion for The Best Screenplay went to Jiří Havelka for his film Owners. The creators of the series Most! can also start celebrating; they will be able to put a statuette for the Best Series of the last year on display.
The Czech Lion Awards have been held since 1993. The crystal trophies are designed by Czech designer Jakub Berdych. For the second time in a row, actor Václav Kopta became the host of the entire ceremony.
