Donald Trump in the Buckingham Palace: Ten regrettable statements made by the US president
Very few people will be lucky enough to ever get an invitation to the Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen. Donald Trump, the self-proclaimed most powerful man on the planet in the role of the president of the United States of America, has set out to meet Elizabeth II and her family for the second time already. This time he took almost his entire family along. Only his youngest son Barron (13) didn't get to go. The Royal family therefore accidentally ended up looking like luxurious animals in a strictly guarded zoo on all the Trumps' social media pages. Luxury Prague life brings you ten of the president's regrettable statements. He's probably never heard of the proverb "Silence is golden".
The very arrival to the royal court involved protests of hundreds of thousands of people, whom Trump naturally ignored, just like Andrej Babiš ignores the weekly demonstrations in Prague in the Czech Republic. He even said this about the crowds:
“Tremendous crowds of well wishers and people that love our Country. Haven’t seen any protests yet, but I’m sure the Fake News will be working hard to find them."
Insulting a Muslim
It wouldn't be the American president if he didn't insult somebody before even arriving at the British isles. He got into a fight with the Muslim mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who declared Trump to be a global threat and a 21st century fascist. Trump called him a loser in return.
"Sadiq Khan, who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly 'nasty' to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me."
Fist for the Queen
Instead of a nod of his head, as dictated by the protocol, he offered to shake hands with the Queen, as if they were old buddies, which foreign media described as inappropriate. Moreover, it looked like he was just extending his fist.
However, Trump wiped all past and future blunders with a beautiful speech. In the beginning he thanked for the warm welcome, but also the lovely weather:
"Thank you for your warm welcome, for this beautiful weather, your gracious hospitality, and Your Majesty's nearly seven decades of treasured friendship with the United States of America."
Then he once again ruined it when he patted Elizabeth II on the back like an old pal at the pub! Nobody has dared to touch this lady in such a way before.
Before this event, however, the president couldn't hold back from going after Duchess Meghan Markle, who'd made it no secret during the US presidential election that her support lay with Hillary Clinton. She turned down the invitation to the banquet, citing that she'd rather stay home with her son.
"I didn’t know that she was nasty."
He wished the new mother good health and success in the role of a mother and a princess.
Prince Charles did not get away free either. The president assessed that he was impressed by Charles' concern about the future generations and the planet.
“He’s really not doing this for him. He’s doing this for future generations,"
he said admiringly. He did not, however, say whether the Prince of Wales convinced him of the existence of global warming. He admitted that the climate is changing, but both ways, that is warming up and cooling down!
He mostly blamed Russia, India and China for global pollution, stating that the United States "are clean". He had this to say to the three countries:
“These three countries, they don’t do the responsibility.”
A "compliment" to Melania
When the presidential couple attended the first day of the celebrations of D-Day's 75th anniversary, Melania struck up a conversation with a veteran (93), whom she had obviously charmed with her luxurious dress. When the old-timer complimented her, saying that if only he'd been twenty years younger... Trump responded quickly like the stallion that he is:
"You could handle it, no question!"
Trump also had political duties on this state visit, thus he met up with prime minister Theresa May. He described her as his good friend and even asked her not to depart from her position.
"I don’t know exactly what your timing is but stick around, let’s do this deal,”
he told May, referring to upcoming trade negotiations. The prime minister will not, actually, leave her position until the end of July.
Trump is also opposed to the European Union, and therefore supports his "good friend" May in her Brexit efforts. He proved this in his statement:
"Big Trade Deal is possible once U.K. gets rid of the shackles (EU)."
The president described his London visit as very satisfactory. He even refers to himself in third person in his tweets.
