The story of Rising Sun, a billionaire’s yacht

The Rising Sun was originally built for Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corporation, in 2004. It is currently owned by David Lawrence Geffen, who purchased it in 2010. The yacht’s plans were created by designer Jon Bannenberg, owner of the Bannenberg & Rowell Design brand, and it was constructed by the German company Lürssen.

The yacht has a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure; it’s powered by 4 engines. The maximum speed it can reach is 28 knots. It weighs 7,600 tons.

Rising Sun offers a living space of over 8,000 m² on five levels and further 3,300 m² are occupied by the deck space. It can accommodate 16 guests in its luxurious cabins, allowing for a 45-man crew. The interior was designed by the company Seccombe Design. What can you find here? A Jacuzzi, a gym, a wine cellar, a sauna, a spa, a private cinema with plasma TV and a basketball court, which can be turned into a heliport.

Who is David Geffen

Together with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg, he founded the film studio DreamWorks. He is also known for his business and music projects in the film industry. He founded the recording company Geffen Records and collaborated with artists such as Aerosmith, Eagles, Elton John and Nirvana.

Geffen doesn’t own only this yacht, but also the Pelorus, which, however, doesn’t offer such level of luxury.
