Prague - Old Town

It belongs to the oldest and most sought after tourist places in Prague. It is dominated by the Old Town Square, which in the 10th Century served as a market place and was a place of significant historical and political events. It surrounds a small district of Josefov and belongs to Prague 1.

While walking through Old Prague, you can see a number of artistic sites across the centuries. From the historical point of view, memorable for this town quarter is year 1338, when building of the town hall commenced, which was placed in the Old Town Square along with the astronomical clock, an unprecedented and luxurious curiosity. The picturesqueness of this part of Prague is also created by buildings with interesting features such as Ungelt. It served in the past as a courtyard with a customs house for foreign caravans. The duty was paid until the 16th Century. Since ancient times, the coronation route has been preserved, leading around many of Prague's Old Town monuments. The Powder Gate was the starting point of a parade leading to Prague Castle. The enumeration of the most interesting does not end here. Charles Bridge, Clementinum, buildings around the Old Town Square: all this tells of the Czech talent, of permanent values bequethed to the next generations.
