History
The history of the brand dates all the way back to 1862, when the confectionery house was established. 75 Avenue des Champs-Elysées is the luxury address at which David and Francis Holder restored fame to the Ladurée brand and this luxury house. In 1997, they not only opened a traditional French tea room here, a so-called “salon de thé”, but also a restaurant thus creating a legendary gastronomic phenomenon which is still absolutely unique to this very day – French macarons have been elevated to the status of luxury national confectionery.
Original recipe
The story of Ladurée macarons, as we know them today, begins in 1930 when Pierre Desfontaines combined two delicate biscuits with a delicious creamy filling, all of a sudden creating the smooth macaron. The recipe has not changed since that time.
What in fact are macarons?
Macarons are small delicate confectionery, typically made from egg white, ground almonds, coconut, sugar and vanilla extract. Various colour versions can be created using food colourings, fruit extracts and other interesting ingredients.
Luxury fashion designers for Ladurée
The Ladurée brand also collaborates with luxury fashion designers, with whom it creates limited edition collections of macarons, not only with designer packaging, but also with new flavours which underline the design and original nature of these products. Twice a year, the so-called “Fabricant de Douceurs” thus design delicious and absolutely unique confectionery constituting a beautiful work of art. Ladurée has for example already collaborated with iconic designers such as Christian Louboutin, Karl Lagerfeld, Emillio Pucci, Lanvin, John Galliano, Chiara Ferragni and Reed Krakoff.
