"Don't stomp your little last season Prada shoes at me, honey!" Who would not remember this iconic quote from the legendary comedy Legally Blonde. Looking at the SS20 collection that the luxury brand introduced during the Milan Fashion Week, we only have to point out one thing - Reese Witherspoon in the role of Elle likely wouldn't want to wear any of this!
Long coats, pleated skirts, bizarre cloche hats and models à la nightgown. If the collection didn't also include a few metallic outfits or sexy mini skirts, we'd think that the luxurious Italian brand has decided to aim at customers over 50.
Just look at Gigi Hadid, for example, she could go straight to retirement and start hunting for sales in grocery flyers.
Compared to last year's collection, which was dominated by low-cut necklines and mini, it could seem that Prada has decided to go in a little more conservative direction this year. It's not entirely true, one thing actually remained - transparent fabrics, and so there are few bolder models in SS20 too.
Nothing extravagant, not much hesitation. Our clear favorite is the luxurious black chiffon midi dress, which actually isn't boring. The transparent and gathered fabric gives it some much needed flair and we cannot say much more than an awed "Ah...".
Not great, not terrible. There are so many outfits in the SS20 collection that just leave such a no-impression that you'll be surprised yourself! Flair, inspiration, finesse, energy - that's what it lacks and we're absolutely not used to that with Prada.
Don't expect a large number of flops. You probably won't find pieces in the SS20 collection that you would want to wear yourself, but if somebody else wore them, you probably wouldn't be giving them disgusted looks. If we were to pick out the black sheep, though, here they are!
Even at first glance, without looking too deep into what brand and fashion show this is, you can tell that it is an event from abroad for sure. Just by seeing the beautiful runway, people dressed in elegant and stylish clothing, the perfect lighting, show and the venue the show takes place in. PRADA. Yes, this brand cannot get away with having a less than "perfect" venue, and that also holds true for its models that will affect the fashion industry all over the world.
The impatient audience and critics sit with bated breath to see what this brand has in store for us. 51 models, that is quite a lot, but on the other hand, one has something to look at throughout the whole show and can think about what they've seen. And, well, however I look at it, I couldn't actually find anything that special. Either I am a rather boring person and lack imagination, or I'm not alone in this and your opinion is similar.
The whole thing looks rather boring to me, as if we were going several years back and taking inspiration from conservative models. I don't like the cuts nor the colors. I can't imagine wearing these models at all, be it for regular wear, or only to a meeting. For me it lacks youth, flair and a little bit of sex-appeal. And those hats that go with it? We've really gone back in time! I know fashion trends are always recurring and everything that's already been designed comes back, but this looks like a collection that wants to leave an impression, when the result is the opposite. As if it completely passed on people who want to feel like they're "IN".
You know how it is... This is PRADA and so it will be seen as "THE BEST" by everyone. That's why I'm thinking, what does it mean to be one of a world class brand? Is it really just about the brand name, or about looking the part?
