The luxurious minimalist nativity set by the Muck studio originated in the summer of 2016. When you look at the wooden design of 14 x 14.5 x 4.3 cm, you will not probably recognise it as a nativity scene at all. But when you find out what it is, this creative endeavour will excite you. Especially if you like minimalism!
"When designing the crib, we have done extensive research. We have focused on the choice of materials and basic "function", which a nativity scene should fulfil. Because we like minimalism, we removed all "needless" stuff from the crib and the result is a symbol in which, after a closer inspection you can clearly see the nativity scene," says Kristýna Kouřilová from studio Muck.
She adds that everyone will be entertained when discovering what the design represents. And that is what it´s about!
It is made of several types of solid wood: the hut from maple, Josef from oak, Mary from ash and the crib of walnut. And baby Jesus? A luxury brass cylinder.
It is available either on the e-shop of studio Muck, at the gallery Czechdesign, or also at Lemarket at the Gallery Mánes, held from 20. to 22. December.
The Czech tradition says that anyone who finds a fish scale under the Christmas dinner plate will not be short of cash in the New Year. The designers of studio Muck want to satisfy those who have something else than fish for dinner, for example schnitzel. On their luxurious placemats with a carp (in combination of blue or white fabric and a golden imprint of a carp) there will be plenty of scales under everyone´s place!
"The taking of an imprint was inspired by Japanese technique of gyotaku. We took an imprint of a carp coated by ink paint, which we transferred into fine paper. The best imprint was then scanned and since then it is applied by the screen-printing method. So that carp is famous. We used the fish up completely: we removed the scales, cooked it, making an excellent dinner," Kristýna added jokingly.
Studio Muck offers interesting Christmas decorations and a luxury golden pig for the dinner table.
