She spent most of her life in London, having immigrated in 1968, after which she was prevented from returning for an extended period of time. She established her own architectural studio there and, together with the architect Petr Vágner, she also owns one in Prague: AI DESIGN. She has recently celebrated her 80th birthday, an exhibition presenting her lifelong work is being prepared at the DOX Arts Center and she also regularly hosts a project of opening Prague's buildings to public, Open House Prague (May 18-19).
Eva Jiřičná deserves our admiration. We would like to present you a selection of her architectural gems worthy of knowing.
Together with Petr Vágner, she is behind the luxury design of the modern Congress Center building in Zlín, her hometown. The congress center boasts a large and a small hall, a recording studio and a restaurant. Are you a fan of contemporary hi-tech architecture? Take a trip to Zlín!
The modern building for students has grown up in Zlín within two years. The luxury object has been in full use since the summer semester of 2018. The university consists of 2 wings, which are connected by a ground floor entrance building. Together with the University and Congress Center, it is part of the educational complex designed by the AI DESIGN studio for the city of Zlín.
The luxurious spiral staircase by Eva Jiřičná can be admired in the spectacular neoclassical majestic palace Somerset House (Westminster, near Waterloo Bridge). This work shows the architect's natural sense for perfect harmony of the historical spirit with an assortment of modern materials such as steel, concrete and glass.
The elegant hotel that, although modern, does not disturb the surrounding historic houses, is located in Prague's Rybná Street. Its dominant elements are suppressed, the sand color sensitively selected. This hotel demonstrates that modern buildings can also be built in historic city centers. In the interior you can admire the spindle-shaped staircase so typical of Eva Jiřičná.
