It's been 80 years since Cannes hosted its first international film festival

The first international film festival was held in Cannes in 1939 and was chaired by the famous camera inventor Louise Lumière. It was an idea was born in the head of the fine arts minister - Jean Zaye. This magnificent achievement was interrupted only by the First World War.

The main venue of the famous film festival since1982 has been the Festival Palace. The huge concrete and glass building dominates the western edge of the famous Cannes Promenade, La Croisette. The building of the palace is surrounded by the so-called 'Star-Studded Floor’ inspired by Hollywood on which tiles with hand prints of film stars are installed in the sidewalk. And there are already many!
