Based on data collection from the last three years, the capital city of Prague has found out that up to a quarter of a million more people than registered according to the Czech Statistical Office (CSO) move within its territory. For three years now, the city has been commissioning professional companies with preparing a continuous analysis of the number of inhabitants present in Prague, drawn up on the basis of the use of anonymised geodemographic data of mobile operators. This information is available for nine selected months from 2018, 2019 and 2020.

"A quarter of a million more people than permanently registered live in Prague. The government should therefore take this into account in the budgetary allocation of taxes. Because otherwise we lose 8-10 billion crowns a year. If we had this money available in Prague, we could, for example, build new apartments, which are so desperately lacking here,"

says the Mayor of the Capital City of Prague Zdeněk Hřib. The data show that approximately 1,570,000 people actually live in the territory of Prague on long-term basis, and even in the year 2020, which was majorly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the number verified in this way didn't decrease. On the contrary, it increased slightly. According to these data, the number of people living in Prague on long-term basis increased by about 30,000 from February 2018 to September 2020. According to the CZSO records, at the end of September 2020, only about 1,330,000 inhabitants were registered for permanent residence in Prague.

Tens of thousands of farmers gathered on the outskirts of the Indian capital Delhi on Tuesday during a tractor parade to protest against a controversial set of agricultural laws. The growers are upset that the laws favor large private buyers at the expense of producers.

"We will follow the instructions of our leaders and carry out a peace march,"

said Sukhjinder Singh, a 30-year-old protester from Punjab in Singh, one of the main protest sites. About half of India's population works in agriculture, and the unrest among an estimated 150 million landowners is one of the biggest challenges for Prime Minister Narender Modi since he came to power in 2014.

On Monday, US President Joe Biden signed an order banning most non-US citizens who have recently been to South Africa from entering the United States, effective Saturday.

Biden's order also provides for an entry ban that expires today for almost all non-US passengers who have been to Brazil, the United Kingdom, Ireland and 26 European countries that allow travel across open borders. Last week, then-US President Donald Trump had lifted restrictions imposed last year, effective on Tuesday. However, due to the worsening pandemic and the spread of more contagious strains, the ban will be extended.

Today, among other things, new rules will come into force requiring all international air passengers above the age of 2 to present themselves with a negative coronavirus test no older than three calendar days before their travel date or a COVID-19 recovery document to enter the United States. .

Heaps of waste from disposable plastic utensils or plastic cups will start to thin out. The government has passed a bill to limit the impact of selected plastic products to parliament. The new legislation includes several types of measures - from a total ban on some products, through restrictions on their consumption to mandatory contributions from producers for cleaning of municipalities and cities.

"The new law wants to lower the absurd overuse of many thousands of tonnes of single-use plastics a year, especially from fast food establishments and mass events. If it relates to the ban of selected single-use products, there are a number of reusable alternatives to them. As a result, we can save millions of pieces of plastic products annually,"

the Minister of the Environment Richard Brabec explains the law. Outright ban applies to plastic cotton swabs, plastic cutlery, plates, straws, stirrers, balloon sticks, food containers and cups.
