American fashion designer Jeremy Scott has been creative director since 2011, but he doesn’t fail to surprise even after seven years. The SS 2019 collection is clear proof of this fact. Models wearing bright colours, with crazy makeup and even crazier props. In a circus. This is the deluxe show the Moschino brand prepared for us.
The SS 2019 collection was entertaining, captivating, shocking and even slightly sad if you consider your other half wearing any of these items to an event. Shiny tailcoats and suits with lurex, embroidery, animal patterns or belts giving the impression of a straitjacket, denim shorts with chest-high waists or Superman style jumpsuits. While creativity clearly rules in the SS 2019, the collection is lacking in function.
Similarly to Alessandro Michele, Jeremy Scott also seems to like crazy props. So the SS 2019 collection included hats, a stuffed tiger, monstrous bows, umbrellas, cases, cloaks and hammers. The question is whether the time has come all deluxe fashion collections have to do is entertain and engage people’s interest?
But we don't want to just criticise the Italian Moschino brand, we have to admit that one wearable item could be found in the collection. The tailcoat is one of the most formal items of clothing and the black one from the SS 2019 collection appears truly deluxe. If you leave the rabbit’s ears, monstrous glittering bow and magician’s hat at home for the children, you can make a real impression in it!
Yes, that is how I would describe the men’s version of the Moschino SS 2019 collection. I realise that these shows are all about engaging interest, creating a show and shocking all in one, but seeing boys with powdered faces in clown-like overalls and a pink top hat? My God no!
I don’t think its possible to choose a single normal item, with the possible exception of the straitjacket style tailcoat. But I think I would only want to see that on a man if he was performing a striptease at the time. And then all those leather straps would be veeery sexy! Crack!
And finally I would like to disturb your sleep a little more (if that is actually possible when you viewing this catastrophe). Do you know what those giant ties remind me of and who actually made them famous in the Czech Republic? The sweaty band called Maxim Turbulenc! I once saw them live and the sweat was dripping off them and soaking their mega-ties: UGH!
