Luděk Munzar: Hardy to the Last Moment
We all knew him as an acting icon, but Luděk Munzar loved not only his work, but also flying, cold water training and car races.
"I lived near the airport, so I got my wife and children interested, too. Dad wanted me to be a pilot," the actor said in the past, in the end he fulfilled the promise given to his father.
He flew a plane over the house when his father still lived there. He never made a secret of the fact that for him flying has always been a much greater passion than acting.
The actor looked very well to the last and he deserved it. The recipe for longevity was his lifelong cold water training. He regularly trained in his pool by the house, particularly in the dead of winter.
"I jump there naked and sometimes my neighbour sees me, but I don´t mind because in freezing weather you cannot see anything anyway," he quipped in one of his interviews.
Cars, too, were one of Munzar´s great passions and he even shortly made a living out of it. He had great successes, for example with his copy of Tatra 602. He won a title of European Champion in veteran car races.
Legends are eternal
It was said that the actor always enjoyed going to the theatre. He allegedly had the opportunity to act alongside such legends as Höger, Medřická, Menšík and others. Born on 20. March 1933 in Nová Včelnice, he graduated from Higher Economic School in Hradec Králové and studied acting at the Prague Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts. Since 1957 he´s been a member of the National Theatre in Prague.
Munzar appeared in a variety of popular works, such as Give the Devil His Due, King´s Game, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Assassination, Today for the Last Time or The Golden Eels. In addition, he was also a successful dubber, such as for Paul Newman and in the years 1995 and 2000 he was awarded in Přelouč by the award of František Filipovský for his lifetime mastery in the field. On 26. January 2019 he died surrounded by his family.
