Liběna Rochová can't deny her knowledge and experience in the field of theater and film costume design. No wonder she's been the head of the Textile Design Studio at Academy of Arts, Architecture & Design in Prague, which is known for its unending extravagance and creativity, for over 10 years. And even though we respect this top designer, her SS20 collection is a huge disappointment for us.

Shoes that you won't wear anywhere ever

If we were judging the theatrical performance alone, we'd undoubtedly be singing praises! The show didn't lack flair, drama and a bit of a veil of secrecy. But we're talking about fashion here. Just tell me, can you imagine going to a party or out into town in freaky thirty centimeter tall platforms that look like they're from the 90's? That'd yield many sprained ankles and long lines at clinics!

Boring stuff that you'd be able to make yourself at home

The SS20 collection containing eight models is dominated by black, and aside from two pink exceptions you won't find anything else in it. Where did the other colors go? And because the models are made in the spirit of oversize and loose cuts, everything just looks like copy and paste! With a bit of hyperbole you can say that you'd be able to make these models yourself at home with no problem.

Nightmarish mimes

The "cherry on top" was the make-up that we will probably be having nightmares about today. Have you always been creeped out by mimes too?

Watch out, this piece is flawless though!

We did find one model in this whole showcase of awkwardness that honestly blew us away! The pink maxi dress seems like it's made it into the SS20 collection by accident. It's a pity that Liběna Rochová didn't present more luxurious pieces like this one at Four Seasons Hotel Prague...

Sometimes a designer tries coming up with new things, they want to shock at all costs, be different, interesting, extravagant, outstanding, up to the point when it sometimes ends up having the opposite effect. That's how I'd begin to describe the long awaited closing show of designer Liběna Rochová. When you finally felt like the show was about to start, it had actually already ended.

Two colorful dresses and that's it

The whole night started off really magnificent. The models in extravagant outfits were slowly creeping along on shoes so high you wouldn't be able to take a single step in them. Their bodies undulated and swayed beautifully to the rhythm of the music until they began to utilize very interesting motions to take off these strange "bags". Under those there were giant black oversize dresses.

It would have been a great opening and an interesting spectacle, if it were the very beginning of the show, but unfortunately it also kinda ended with this. Just when it all actually began to look up after the black "bags" and the whole show lit up with the reddish tones of dresses that brightened up the whole thing. There were only two of these models altogether, though, and that was a pity.

Better next time, please

Designer Liběna Rochová is renowned among fashion designers and her models always exhibit personality, style and curiosity. I've already seen several gorgeous and very interesting pieces by her, but this show disappointed me. I expected a showcase of beautiful and interesting models full of colors and luxury. Unfortunately, that didn't happen today. I'm sure she had her reasons for making this collection and knew why it'd play out this way specifically, simply "different". But I really didn't come to like it very much this time.

I'm looking forward to more of her beautiful models that she must surely keep filed away in her mind, keeping us on edge on purpose, to see what she'll shock us with next time.

A red dress? I really like this shade of red, it always comes off as very magnificent, but I'd accentuate the waist here a bit more.
