A fascinating collection with elements of streetwear

This year Kris Van Assche will be celebrating ten years of fashion design under the auspices of Dior Homme. This successful Belgian designer has held the position of artistic director of Dior Homme already since April 2007. His typical and unique minimalistic style is easy to recognize in the fascinating Spring/Summer 2018 collection, which is further enriched by elements of the streetwear style.

French revolution in men’s fashion!

The streetwear style, which has its roots in the subcultures of basketball, surfing and skating and incorporating elements of hip-hop, Japanese street fashion and haute couture, served as an inspiration for the minimalistic work of Kris Van Assche. In his spring and summer collection, he connects the worlds of suits and sports. Black suits in an unconventional combination with tennis shoes: well, this is what a good French revolution looks like!

The time has come to emphasize also men’s curves!

Size is now a key element of the collection. It seems that the time has come to draw attention to the often-overlooked men’s curves. The collection consists of boyish blazers, tight fitting shirts and shorts, knitted vests, bombers evoking a downtown atmosphere and jackets/sleeveless vests. The used materials – cotton, wool, nylon, tabbinet, leather or luxurious silk directly corresponding to sports elegance. Hard-to-miss metal necklaces, brooches, luxurious silk scarves, scarves with large logos, leather belts and bags also make an appearance.

A man’s jacket as a piece of art

The collection was introduced with an initial wave of black, perfectly fitting suits; these were then replaced by models in innocent white, passionate red or dark wine. A neutral grey accentuated by dynamic vintage patterns was also present. And the jackets and shirts with a motive of orchids in a combination of white, red and blue (symbolizing the French flag) are a real work of art. The motives were created using oil paintings by the talented French artist Francoise Bard, who draws inspiration especially on the streets – a perfect fit for this luxuriously elegant streetwear collection!
