Interracial love: What to look out for, if your other half isn‘t Czech!
Today it is no wonder, if you fall in love with someone from the other side of the planet. If this has happened to you, congratulations! Your life is spiced up with an exotica, that you won’t be able to experience with any Czech. But don’t forget the good old saying. “Different country, different customs”!
Do the differences of your dear exotic counterpart appeal to you? In the case, that your partner is from an absolutely “other” world, it can bring many situations of faux pas, and unforgiveable transgressions. There is as much cultural diversity as there are stars in the sky… And these are just some of them:
African countries
Don’t reproach Africans for yelling. They’re not yelling at you or anybody else. They’re making it known in their loudness, that they aren’t spreading any gossip or slander. It is, conversly, a sign of respect.
China
Never give anybody a watch in China, even if it was made from gold! A gift in the form of a clock, means death in China. It could be your last visit to the said person’s family!
Korea
Avoid the number 4, like the antichrist! If they sit you down at a table number 4, sit somewhere else before you’re other half finds out. The number four in Korea and other Asian countries is an unlucky number. You might as well say the word “death”.
Vietnam
You will make Vietnamese friends, you will take pictures and them send them to them. However, avoid group photos with three people. They believe, that it’ll bring bad luck to the one in the middle.
Russia
If you want have peace at a Russian visit, don’t ever give them a knife, or any other sharp object. It can start up an argument!
If a woman gets shoes from her Russian boyfriend, it means break-up. Therefore we advise you to rather not ask for any luxury shoes from them. Wait for the wedding. In the Caucasus, the tradition is, that the man buys everything new when a woman is getting married, from shoes to fur coats!
Turkey and other muslim countries
There are more differences there, but be aware of the holiday of sacrifice, Kurban Bayram (11.-15.8). The tradition holds that a man must bring a live ram into his home and slit its throat. The woman has to disembowel it, and cut the meat, and put it in the freezer. Are you ready for something like that?
