Hobbit cottage

You don’t necessarily have to be fans of fantasy literature or books by J. R. R. Tolkien, but if you are interested in sustainable living with high ecological impact, read carefully, because I will offer you a pair of feasible deluxe projects in the manner of a hobbit house.

The author and builder of the house is like a fairy tale figure himself!

The entire idea was based on wish to avoid high interest for a mortgage or being squashed inside a small flat. That is what creator Simon Dale told himself. And he is no architect or builder. He simply took a chainsaw, plane and pickaxe. He obtained a glade in the forest free of charge and the story about his own house could begin. Add 1,500 hours of hard work and 4 months of exhaustion, but the result is unique and deluxe. It cost the family 3,000 pounds.

The house has an organic shape, it is made from natural material and affords its owners the opportunity to live in close contact with nature. The main frame is made from tree trunks. The roof is made from straw bales with a layer of plastic panels and the walls are plastered with breathable lime plaster.

Live like a character in J. R. R. Tolkien’s feature film

The other way to become a “small hobbit” is to make a house out of modules from the Green Magic House Company, which developed modern family houses looking like they come from the Middle Earth in the film. The houses have 120 square metres and three people can build one in three days. The housing is ecological and low-energy. The entire structure is covered in a layer of peat and is gradually overgrown with grass. The houses are light, waterproof and afford first-hand contact with nature. This is what is called “natural luxury”.

Next stop – deluxe Hobbiton in the Orlické Mountains

To visit a fan of J. R. R. Tolkien who doesn’t just fantasize about his books and films, we have to visit Mr Svatoslav Hofman in Šedivín u Dobrušky. This is where this enthusiast has created a Czech Hobbiton. The small cottages on his land were created over two years. Visitors can discover the beauties of 4 holes, the Green Dragon pub and the Barrel House.
