Nude tights as a new trend?!

Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele used the deluxe SS19 collection to refute the statement that nude tights are taboo. On the contrary, he started disputes about whether this could be a new trend. He proudly presented them on the runway in Paris, along with items inspired by Mickey Mouse or the singer Dolly Parton.

A refuge for beauty according to Alessandro Michele

Gucci presented the deluxe SS19 collection at Théâtre Le Palace during Paris Fashion Week. And according to the Italian designer the theatre became a so-called “refuge for beauty”, while chaos reigned in the world outside.

The collection paid homage to Dolly Parton

The SS19 collection also pays homage to singer Dolly Parton. Her image appears on a deluxe tracksuit for example and the distinctive hats, which openly remind us of the popular Dolly’s unmistakable accessory, are also inspired by her.

Back to the past with Jane Birkin

The Gucci brand dives back into the past with its newest collection, like it has in previous seasons. The SS19 collection consists of dresses, skirts with feathers, fringes, glittering beads, sequins and opulent pleats evoking the wild eighties. And the music that accompanied this deluxe show also reinforced the ambiance of nostalgia. Alessandro Michele chose the hit by Jane Birkin called Baby Alone in Babylone from the album of the same name.

Mickey Mouse was back in the limelight

As well as items full of dazzling glitter, Alessandro Michel also presented items made from deluxe leather, denim or elegant tweed. The legendary Mickey Mouse was brought back into the limelight when the designer projected his image onto one of the handbags. Was this infantile? Possibly. Playful and chic? Certainly!

Although we didn’t see crazy horror props on the runway this time, like the copies of models’ heads we saw in the FW18 collection, there was still plenty to admire.

Alessandro Michele really should come up with something new!

As always, the biggest hotshots of the fashion industry presented their models at Paris Fashion Week. And of course the GUCCI fashion brand was among them. However the SS19 collection is a great disappointment to me, because it was just mega-chaotic. Alessandro Michel should reach deep into himself and basically come up with something of HIS OWN, instead of paying homage to Mickey Mouse, Dolly Parton or Jane Birkin (whose style I never really understood?!!!).

On the other hand, who was actually surprised by this horror? I personally only needed to see the new GUCCI window dressing on Pařížská Street in Prague. And then in Paris? I thought the pink tracksuit with Dolly was terrible, that should certainly never cost CZK 100,000, not even if it was sewn by the angels themselves.

Towards the end of the show I was still trying to find at least one item that I could say was worth it. In the end I chose the white dress with the ruffles, embellished at the waist with an embroidered human heart. Yes, it sounds horrific when I say it like that, but if I discount the nude tights (which I DON’T THINK ARE TRENDY AT ALL AND NEVER WILL BE), the black boots with the funeral buckle and the latex gloves, the outfit is great.

You can find the biggest HITS and FLOP of the collection according to Ornella at the beginning of the gallery under the article.
