Because of the attractiveness of the project the Grammy organisers this time round nominated into the main four categories eight candidates rather than five. As regards the American Academy of Music, the most successful person was rapper Kendrick Lamar, who has been nominated eight times. Drake has been nominated to win seven statuettes for the Scorpion recording.
On 10. February 2019 the following nominees will compete for the Best Rock Album during the ceremony in Los Angeles; Alice in Chains (Rainer Fog), Fall Out Boy (Mania), Ghost (Prequelle), Greta Van Fleet (From The Fires) and Weezer (Pacific Daydream), this is followed by five artists competing in the category of the best alternative album; Arctic Monkeys (Tranquillity Base Hotel + Casino), Beck (Colors), Björk (Utopia), David Byrne (American Utopia) and St. Vincent (Masseducation).
In the category of the Album of the Year, next to Lamar and Drake will also appear rapper Cardi B (Invasion of Privacy), folk singer Brandi Carlile (By the Way), R&B singer H.E.R (I Forgive You), singer Post Malone (Beerbongs & Bentleys), singer Janelle Monáe (Dirty Computer) and country star Kacey Musgraves (Golden Hour).
Some artists, such as Lamar, Drake, Carlile, Malone or Cardi B will appear on the stage several times over, for example in the category Record of the Year. Here, singer Lady Gaga (Shallow) will also compete for the award, since she was nominated with the same song also in the category of the Best Song of the Year designated for the authors. The New York Times observed that in each of the four main categories there appear more women than has been the case in the past.
Surprisingly, Taylor Swift does not figure very significantly - for her Reputation record she has been nominated in just one category. Kanye West, winner of 21 Grammy Awards was also nominated in just a single category; as a producer.
The Grammy Awards were originally to be handed over on 5. December, but in the end they were published two days later, because of the funeral of former US President George H.W. Bush. The awards ceremony will take place at the Los Angeles Staples Centre on 10. February of the next year. The Grammys have more than 80 categories, awards are also granted to interprets of the various musical genres, including classical music. This year, Bruno Mars was the top winner at the 60th annual Grammy Awards show, having won in the total of six categories. Lamar obtained five awards. The ceremony was watched by 19.8 million viewers.
