The rehearsals for the long-awaited play Faust are ongoing at the theatre Divadlo pod Palmovkou under the charismatic directing leadership of the Polish director Jan Klata. He was the director of the National theatre Stary Teatr in Krakow, and he successfully directed in Graz, Düsseldorg, Berlin, or Dresden.
A year ago in Lieben, he also directed the fantastic play Measure for Measure by Shakespeare and from the 2. March the performace of the aformentioned Faust by Johann Wolfgang Goethe will begin. And it seems like there will be no shortage of surprises!
Faust is one of the most provoking and fundamental works of European culture, and that is precisly, what motivates Klata.
The play apparantly is richly accompanied by music and there is a very complicated choreography, which is the director’s main focus. It is important for him that actors are able to express themselves not only with words, but with gestures as well. We haven’t managed to find out more about the play itself. Everything is shrouded in silent mystery.
However, we can definitely look forward to a great play. The second half of Faust is in the words of Klata ‘a phantasmagoria’ and the director revealed, that the actors an actresses will quickly switch between characters they play. And that sounds very interesting, don’t you think?
