Several days ago, the first of two planned museums of one of the greatest designers of the 20th Century, Yves Saint Laurent, was opened in the capital city of fashion on the site where the designer created his luxurious collections – in Avenue Marceau near the Victory Arch in Paris.

The museum was established thanks to the initiative of Pierre Bergér, co-founder of the brand and YSL’s lifelong partner. Unfortunately, he did not live to see its gala opening.

Yves Saint Laurent was known for changing and dictating trends in fashion. His brand was and still is a symbol of luxury and superior creativity. The luxury museum allows visitors to discover the life and career of the beloved designer. You can admire the most luxurious collections and take a look at the salons and workshops were the stunning Haute Couture garments were created. 

What did Yves Saint Laurent give the world of fashion?

At the end of the 1950s, he became the creative director of the Dior brand and the youngest fashion designer in the world of Haute Couture. In the 1960s he started building his own fashion brand YSL. His luxurious new collections were inspired by pop art and abstract art, he boldly transposed masculine elements into women’s fashion, was the inventory of the pantsuit and created the women’s version of the men’s tuxedo.

Later, he started using sheer materials (Safari collection) and velvet, finding inspiration in Russia, Africa and Asia.

His collections were admired by many famous personalities from around the world. One of the greatest admirers of Yves Saint Laurent’s work is French film actress and winner of many prestigious awards, Catherine Deneuve.

The second museum in Marrakech, Morocco, where Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergér spent a lot of time, will be opened at the end of October 2017.
