It is our pleasure to bring you a piece of exotica from the other side of the world.

Luxury wood carvings are among other things a way to remember history and to tell stories of the great Maori warriors from their wealth of mythology.

Luxury carvings with symbolism

Wood carvings are a big part of contemporary Maori life and the art of their production is passed down from generation to generation. Have a look with us at some of the typical carvings which you can use to decorate your wall or interior.

The majority of motifs and shapes are stylised into a fish hook. Through this, the Maoris draw attention to the huge respect they have for the ocean and the creatures which live in it. Many charms, statues or luxury wall art have specific symbolism. This for example concerns Matau which is one of the most powerful symbols in New Zealand. It represents prosperity, abundance and fertility and you will find it in almost every Maori household.

The symbol of life: Koru

The Koru symbol is also used in abundance, representing life and it is also the symbol of the whole of New Zealand. It has the shape of a curled fern and you come across this very often and everywhere in New Zealand.

Carvings or luxury charms are often decorated with jadeite, which is a typical stone used for production of jewellery and accessories in New Zealand. If you long for an exotic accessory and hand-crafted luxury design from the other side of the world, carvings from New Zealand are exactly what you should be looking out for.

If you are planning to visit this unique island (or in fact two islands), leave some space in your luggage. It will come in useful.
