Rašín Embankment stretches from Vyšehrad tunnel to Jirásek Bridge. The exceptional nature of this place is accentuated also by the luxurious houses which were constructed in accordance with designs of notable architects.

Luxury part of Prague associated with the Havel family

The modern dominant is the Dancing House from the 1990's, designed by Vlado Milunić and Frank O. Gehry. Right next to it stand two apartment houses, one of which bears a sculpture of the globe on its roof. Both houses were constructed by notable builder, Vácslav Havel, who also lived here. He was grandfather of former President Václav Havel, who resided at the luxury address on Rašín Embankment 2000/78 with his wife Olga and brother Ivan.

However, he was not the only well-known personality who chose to live in this exclusive part of Prague full of beautiful apartments. In a luxurious house on the waterfront, toward Podskalí, also resided famous opera singer, Václav Zítek (1932-2011), after whom was also named the park, leading to Palacký Square.

The capital never has enough luxurious buildings

Other interesting buildings of Rašín Embankment include a memorial of František Palacký, created according to plans of Stanislav Suchard, or the building of the former General Pension Institute from the beginning of the twentieth century, which represents cooperation of notable architects, Jan Kotěra and Josef Zasch.

Originally the embankment was called Podskalské and then it changed its name several times over, before it got its current name. It now proudly bears the name of famous Czech politician, economist and the first Czechoslovak Minister of Finance.
