Emotions, Speed and Tradition: that´s the legendary Race, Mille Miglia!
The famous car race across Italy where luxury veterans go at full throttle, that´s Mille Miglia. As the name suggests, it measures 1,000 miles. The race takes place in parts with restricted traffic and the route changes from year to year.
Route of the race
The legendary and luxury road race, Mille Miglia, is held in the beautiful Italian region of Lombardy, which lies between Lago Maggiore, river Po and Lago di Garda. The starting city which is the organiser, is one of the centres of motor sport, is Brescia. This is also where in 1921 the first Grand Prix of Italy was held. Grand Prix was however moved to Monza and the locals were looking for other pleasure within the motor sport field. It was therefore no surprise that the race Mille Miglia was established, whose historical value is known mainly in northern Italy, helping to form a kind of local identity.
The first route was interwoven through the northern and central Italy and began in Brescia from where it continued to Bologna to the Adriatic coast and inland, all the way to Rome. It then conquered the Apennines and led North toward Lombardy back into the city of Brescia. The first change of the original route abolished the initial drive right across the city of Brescia and the racers only passed through it at the finish.
A school for racers as well as mechanics
For decades, this luxurious race has been proving that a better test of courage and condition of the vehicle than the open, 1,000 miles long road cannot be imagined . The first Mille Miglia was held in 1927. The starting position was assumed by 77 drivers with serial sports cars of famous brands. The finish line of the race in Brescia, which took place from 26. to 27. March 1927, victoriously arrived Minola with Morandi with an OM vehicle (Officine Meccaniche). Only then in the distance appeared the other two thirds of racers. It took 22 hours for Minola and Morandi at an average speed of 77 km/h to historically become the first winners of the famous race. As a tribute, an OM vehicle is always placed on the first starting position.
In other years, actually for ten consecutive years, won a car from the Alfa Romeo garage. In 1930 the speed record was surpassed by driver named Nuvolari - Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 won the Mille Miglia, with an average speed of 100 km/h.
The unique race, Mille Miglia, holds its notable position because of its history, contributed to not only by fierce competition but also the uniqueness of the place and its atmosphere.

This luxury year of Mille Miglia 2018 began on 16. May and ends on Saturday, 19. May, on the traditional route Brescia-Rome-Brescia. A position on the starting line was taken up by 450 luxury cars of 73 car manufacturers. This year´s Mille Miglia begins and ends one day earlier than has been the tradition of recent years.
