Vojtech resigned. Prague is tightening coronavirus measures

Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch announced his resignation at a press conference on Monday. He still wants to remain a member of parliament and devote himself to health care.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš thanked him for his work on Twitter:

"I would like to thank @adamvojtechano for the work he has done in health care. He is a decent, honest and very hard-working man. I am convinced that if he hadn't have to expend all his energy on the coronavirus, he would have one day been remembered as our best health minister."

As of today, other measures against coronavirus are entering into force as well, mainly in Prague. The first of today's big changes awaits students and teachers: on Monday, distance learning begins for all students at Prague universities. However, exams are still allowed to take place in groups of less than ten people. Laboratory, experimental and artistic work for up to 15 people and clinical and practical training are also allowed. Libraries remain open so far.

Blanket closure of universities throughout the country has not been ordered, but students already have to wear face masks in common areas and lecture halls. The same applies to 2nd grade elementary school students and high school students. In the coming days, we'll find out if these schools remain open. As the mayor of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib, has previously indicated, he wouldn't be against the closure:

"It turns out that the Public health department doesn't agree with the introduction of distance learning in secondary schools. It will take place only in universities. But I personally believe that it should be introduced."

In addition, visits to hospitals are prohibited in Prague, with the exception of visits to minors and the dying. The measure also applies in some other regions; in some cases, the facility itself has banned visits.

In the capital, it is now also mandatory to wear a face mask at all outdoor events for more than 100 people. The same measure will enter into force in the Central Bohemian Region and in the Cheb, Zlín, Uherské Hradiště and Kroměříž regions.

The yellow jersey arrived in Paris

Tadej Pogačar is the first Slovenian to win the Tour de France. The famous bicycle race measuring 3,484 kilometers ended on Sunday evening on the Champs-Elysees in Paris. Pogačar won with a lead of 59 seconds. The member of the UAE Team Emirates only took the lead on Saturday. The winner of the scoring competition was Irishman Sam Bennett.

Usually, the award gala evening of the prestigious Emmy Awards is a spectacular event, accompanied by luxurious gowns and extravagant hairstyles. But not this time! This year, the winners received the statuettes only virtually, in their living rooms. For the first time, the awarding ceremony took place purely online.

Many famous names have received an award. Schitt’s Creek, a comedy show running on Netflix, was a record success, winning a total of nine awards. Another star of the evening was the series Sucession produced by HBO, which won five awards.

The 24-year-old Zendaya, who won an award in the "Best Actress in a Drama Series" category for her performance in the popular HBO series Euphoria, also enjoyed extraordinary success. She became the youngest winner in this category. It was the first Emmy statuette that former child model and actress Zendaya won:

"I'd like to say there's hope for young people."

China is preparing for a census

How to count 1.3 billion people during the coronavirus crisis? That's the challenge China is currently dealing with. The most populous country in the world has set the date of its seventh census. It is held every ten years.

The plan is that seven million officials will scatter to all corners of the country and gather information on names, gender or education. The citizens of China are also encouraged to use their mobile phones to share information.

Who's to blame for emissions? Mainly the rich!

One percent of the world's richest people is responsible for twice as much carbon dioxide emissions as the poorest half of the population, as shown by a new study by the charity Oxfam, which examined the period between 1990 and 2015.

Carbon dioxide emissions have increased by 60 percent in the last 25 years. The increase from the percentage of the richest part of the world's population was three times higher than the increase in emissions from the poorest half. According to researchers, this is due to high consumption and often non-ecological travel.

Estée Lauder sends cosmetics into space

Remember what a great achievement it was to send a man into space in the last century? Well, those times are long gone. Now, cosmetics are traveling into space!

Cosmetic company Estée Lauder is working with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to send their skin care products into space. Why? They want to create a unique advertisement on the International Space Station (ISS) that captures the products in a microgravity environment.

The cosmetics giant hopes to send 10 bottles of its famous "Advanced Night Repair" to the ISS later this month. They will be loaded by the Northrop Grumman Cygnus spacecraft, which will be carrying more than 3,500 kilograms of supplies to the space station.
