A few weeks ago, news of a new coronavirus strain from South England had caused a great stir. Much of the world immediately resorted to harsh restrictions, even some parts of Britain have isolated themselves. However, the measures faild to stop the spread of the more contagious form of coronavirus. The new mutation B.1.1.7. has now been confirmed at our closest neighbors. This coronavirus strain appeared in eastern Slovakia.
"Already in the first samples from the Michalovce district, Boris Klempa's team, in cooperation with the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of Comenius University, managed to identify the so-called English strain,"
Minister of Health Marek Krajčí said on his social network. According to the scientists, the British form of coronavirus is up to 70 percent more contagious than the original strain. Its spread is particularly intense among children and more common in people under 60 years of age.
The anti-epidemic index will change in our country from tomorrow

The anti-epidemic index DOG will undergo significant changes from Wednesday, January 6. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Health, Jan Blatný. He had originally said that the DOG level would start to be counted according to the new rules as early as January 1, but in the end he decided to postpone the deadline. The percentage of newly infected people will no longer be taken into account in the calculation of the resulting risk index, as it is distorted by area-wide antigen testing. This increases the positivity of tests as well as the reproductive number and artificially raises the risk index, which, as a result, remains well above the 4/5 degree of the anti-epidemic index DOG.
According to the Ministry of Health, the resulting score should be more in line with reality from tomorrow. More data from hospitals will be taken into account. It is the occupancy of hospitals that is a key indicator of the current strength of the epidemic. The congestion of the country's health care system is the biggest coronavirus-related scarecrow, and the very reason why anti-epidemic measures are in place worldwide.
