In an interview, the German Chancellor defended the delay in vaccination and renewed her promise that all adult German citizens would be vaccinated by the end of the summer. However, we don't hear similar words full of hope from Japan, where the organizers of the Summer Olympic Games are facing one problem after another. And do you know which well-known band will perform at the awards ceremony for American football players before this year's SuperBowl?

The outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who has been repeatedly described as the most powerful woman in the world, spoke in an extensive interview for the German public station ARD about the coronavirus pandemic. The 66-year-old native of Hamburg focused on vaccination. She supported the Russian Sputnik V vaccine and said that any functional vaccine is welcome at the moment. She called on all German citizens to hold on just a little longer and expressed her belief that everything would turn out well in the end. Despite the fact that Germany has certain problems with vaccination and it's not going as quickly as expected, the Chancellor is convinced that every adult in Germany will be vaccinated by the end of the summer.

According to the results of studies published in the medical journal The Lancet, the effectiveness of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V against COVID-19 is 91 percent, which is a very high number compared to other vaccines. Angela Merkel also has also recently spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the vaccine, and she stated that every functional vaccine was welcome in the European Union. Sputnik V could be used in the EU if it obtains regulatory approval.

The Prague municipal authority, the transport company of the capital the City of Prague (DPP) and the city district of Prague 8 agreed to cooperate in the development of the locality between the Palmovka and Invalidovna metro stations. The area in question has about 10 hectares. In the coming years, construction of housing, job opportunities, as well as public amenities or education services will grow there. The construction can be carried out either directly by the city or in cooperation with the private sector. These are not the only major changes in this area; in December we published an article about the revitalization of the Rohan Island.

"We have been working on the coordinated development of the area for more than a year. Now there is a possibility that a detailed development plan will be created for this neglected brownfield in terms of its future use, but also in terms of connection to other localities. Thanks to that, we will manage to link the city districts of Palmovka and Karlín with the Rohan Island,"

says Petr Hlaváček, Deputy Mayor for Territorial Development.

The Japanese capital, Tokyo, is expected to welcome athletes from around the world for the Summer Olympics this year. The event didn't take place on the original scheduled date last year and has been, for now, postponed to July 23 - August 8, 2021. However, it is not 100% certain that the games will take place, although the giant Olympic rings installed in the port of Tokyo are already alerting the public to their approaching date. The medical association has now stated that Japanese doctors and nurses will not have time for voluntary help during the Olympic Games due to the coronavirus epidemic. Several waves of the coronavirus pandemic have exhausted them so much that they are reportedly not considering this help at all.

"No matter how I look at it, it's impossible. I hear doctors who originally volunteered saying that there is currently no way they could take time off when their hospitals are completely overwhelmed,"

Satoru Arai, director of the Tokyo Medical Association, said for Reuters. The Olympic Committee and the Japanese government had asked her to provide more than 3 and a half thousand medical staff for the event.

The year 2020 was to be marked by the great return of the American punk rock band Green Day, fronted by singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong. They've been active on the music scene for 35 years and last year, after four long years, they released their latest studio album Father of All Motherf***ers. However, the planned stadium concert tour had to be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, so the band didn't have a chance to present the new songs to their fans live. On Saturday, February 6, however, fans of the trio Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool will finally get their fill! The band will perform at the NFL honors awards. With regard to the current situation, the show won't be broadcast live, it will be pre-recorded. Popular TV presenter Steve Harvey will accompany the viewers throughout the evening. A day later, on Sunday, February 7, American football fans can look forward to the culmination of the season: the legendary SuperBowl. This year in the NFL final, the Kansas City Chiefs will play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

And that's all the news we could fit into our morning overview. As per usual, we've prepared an inspiring quote for a better day for you. This time it's by the French sculptor Auguste Rodin:

"One of the biggest advantages of telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said."

Think about it and your life will be happier!
