At this year's film festival, Czech creators were also represented, at the same time paying a tribute to the late Czech director, Miloš Forman.

Movies in Cannes in conjunction with the Czech Republic

The section Week of Criticism noted a co-production film, Fuga (Director Agnieszka Smoczyńska), made by co-production of Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden. After debut of the film from the year 2015 the Lure of the Sirens (Córki dancingu), director Agnieszka Smoczyńska pays attention to the strong and complicated main character, Alicija suffering by loss of memory, after which she built her own free-spirited way of life. The film was shot partly in the Czech Republic and also has a Czech composer, Filip Míšek.

The luxurious section of world jewels of Czech cinematography Cannes Classics now newly includes the feature film debut of Jan Němec, Diamonds of the night from the year 1964, which was this year digitally restored by the National Film Archive. After two years the restored version of the feature film was screened within the framework of the luxurious and prestigious section of Cannes Classics. It was shown in Cannes together with other world-famous films, such as 2001: Space Odyssey, Bicycle Thieves, the Apartment, Grease, The Big Blue, and others. Honouring Miloš Forman

On the very first day the festival was launched by the luxury film The Firemen's Ball by director Miloš Forman, screened in the open-air cinema on the beach (Cinema de la Plage). Through his creation, Forman ranked among the greats of world-class cinematography. This year it will be exactly 50 years since the inclusion of Forman´s film The Firemen's Ball in the main competition of the festival, whose 21st year had been prematurely concluded due to turbulent political developments in France.

Czech films in Marché du Film

Within the framework of the festival in Cannes some Czech films were also projected, within the framework of the film market Marché du Film, which for film professionals represents a major events in conjunction with the festival. Some of our luxurious pictures were presented here, such as the animated Hurvínek and the Magic Museum (directed by Martin Kotík, Inna Evlannikova), the winning picture of this year´s Berlinale, filmed with Czech co-production, Don´t Cling to Me - Noli me Tangere by Antonio da Correggio, (directed by Adina Pintilie) and the Slovak-Czech Interpreter (directed by Martin Šulík).

The luxurious achievement here is the inclusion of the producer Radovan Síbrt into the programme for young film producers, Producers on the Move, held in Cannes by the international organisation European Film Promotion. This is a three-day programme for beginning film producers who are ready for the international market but have not yet finished more than 3 co-produced feature films. In the past, the programme was participated upon on behalf of the Czech Republic by for example Pavla Janoušková Kubečková, Jan Macola, Tomáš Hrubý, Viktor Tauš, Radim Procházka, Jiří Konečný and others.
