Dalea Chihuly (1941), Stanislav Libenský (1921-2002) and Jaroslava Brichtová (1924) are linked together not only by love of glass, but they are also very good friends. They met in Železný Brod in 1969 and this meeting stood at the beginning of their long-standing friendship.
Dale Chihuly is a multimedia artist from the USA, whose works can be admired in more than 200 collections around the whole world. At the Expo 67 in Montreal he became familiar with the luxurious, monumental sculptures of fused glass by Libenský and Brichtová and in 1969 he set off to meet them in the glassworking town of Železný Brod.
The exhibition at the DOX centre shows major works of these three artists, revealing a wonderful story of mutual respect, support and friendship which has lasted for more than 50 years. Since 1969 they were considered to be the prime force of the international movement of atelier glasswork.
In 1954 the common path of joint creation of these two notable Czech artists was initiated. They both had studied Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and then worked together on the creation of luxury sculptures of fused glass. They took part in World Exhibitions in Brussels, Montreal and Osaka, thus gaining fame throughout the world. You can now see their luxurious work created through a very complex and unique method in DOX in Prague.
The concept of the exhibition originated in cooperation of Chihuly Studio and Czech artist, Jaroslav Róna; the architectural design was provided by Chihuly Studio and Lucie Rónová.
Do not miss the luxury exhibition at the DOX Centre, where a great space is devoted to these artists. You can see the unique coloured glass creations of Chihuly, suspended from the ceiling; on the floor above there is a collection of monumental sculptures of the duo Brichtová-Libenský. The exhibition is supplemented by the artists´ drawings and sketches. The luxurious exhibition closes on 24. 9. 2018.
