While we'd be almost willing to kill for some models from the new SS20 haute couture collection, there are also pieces we'd immediately return to creative director Virginia Viard with a recommendation for total overhaul. Why? They lack flair and seem incredibly bland, as if the designers borrowed them from the wardrobes of their grandmothers.

Bland luxury

While the entire Dior collection completely blew us off, the black and white variation of Chanel models turned out to be a slight disappointment. The sophisticated ensembles lack the necessary flair and we can't really imagine that we'd head out to an important business meeting in these, hoping to impress. Similar models might be an ideal choice for a middle-aged teacher who spends most of the time sitting behind her desk, but unfortunately, she probably wouldn't be able to afford them. Therefore it remains a mystery, who's going to buy pieces like these...

We've discovered a solitary pearl

We'll give Virginia Viard at least some credit, though - there was one luxury gem in the form of an esemble in this collection after all! It is this woven pastel model, which we find simply flawless.

Evening gowns are her domain

What we really enjoy about the couture SS20 collection are all the luxury evening gowns, which, on the other hand, couldn't be any more beautiful! They are flawless, they are sexy, they are imaginative, you can immediately tell they're characterized by high-quality materials and precise workmanship. If you want to look like a star, cloak yourself in Chanel and everyone around you will turn green with envy!

The kitsch factor is high here

Looking at this piece, it seems to us that Virginia Viard grabbed everything that had been left lying around the studio and decided to work some magic! The black tube dress with a belt makes the impression of a piece from a Vietnamese market, which can't be changed even by the fact that it's Chanel. What a fail...

Well, we'll give Virginia Viard a B- and wait to see what she comes up with next! More models from the SS20 haute couture collection can be found in the gallery at the end of the article.

The new Chanel collection made me want to get married!

You know, I'm not a wedding type of girl. The idea of a princess dress and starched sleeves scares me. However, after seeing the new Chanel collection for spring and summer, I'm slowly changing my mind, and I'll probably start exerting subtle pressure at home. I happened to have discovered a few pieces here that I can imagine wearing not only while out in the town in the summer, having a few drinks with my girl friends, but also for a wedding on the beach, and now I really want to have one. How about you?

For me, Chanel has always been an icon of very... conservative fashion. The models usually force their owners to put on a mask of an ambitious workaholic. However, this collection is airy and comfortable looking, while still being very elegant.

A boho style wedding

I learnt the wedding fair this year that natural weddings were still in, thus the bride is supposed to wear a dress in the boho style. Although it's not everyone's thing, I still think that boho can be tweat to suit every woman. And this lovely model is exactly what I see myself wearing when I say "yes" to my prince in Jamaica. A drop of mauve has never hurt anyone.

Although a drop of black won't kill anyone either. I can't decide. The A-shaped skirt is simply awesome, and because it only reaches to my knees, I can easily be standing ankle-deep in water during the ceremony. Of course I won't be wearing those warm socks - maybe after dark, if it happened to get a bit breezy in the Caribbean.

For a party or to work

But let's stop dreaming and get back to Earth... this dress is the top. Whoever claims that gray is not color, bite your tongue. The top that reveals one's collarbones and shoulders is simply great, and tulle skirts have never gone out of fashion. In my opinion, you can wear this for any occasion - weddings, funerals, girl nights, work.... Anywhere you go, you'll be a star.

A horrible boss

Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes! Alright, I wish I were taller. With less than 170 cm, I'm still a bit too small for this magnificent model. But I can't take my eyes off it. A stunning pattern, a sophisticated turtleneck, and those white rolled up sleeves? If my boss came to me all raging, telling me what I'd done wrong this time, I would definitely want to kill her. Not for the bullying, but out of sheer envy that she could afford to wear this dress, not only from the financial point of you, but also because of her figure!

I usually find a few bizzare items that offend me, sometimes even enrage me in a collecation, but today, I won't have to pace through my office like a tiger in a cage. In my opinion, this collection deserves an A+.
