It wasn’t that long ago that we presented Cara Delevingne to you in the Shimmer in the Dark Christmas campaign for Jimmy Choo. Together with the actor Matt Smith, she has now been chosen as the face of another campaign – Burberry Holiday 2017!
The model and actress Cara Delevingne has teamed up with the British actor Matt Smith to create the entertaining and playful Holiday 2017 campaign. At the start of it, Cara sings the song “Always On My Mind” by the Pet Shop Boys, which subsequently provides an underlying theme for the whole campaign. Snow, luxury Burberry knitwear, Christmas motifs, playful music, smiles and merry grimaces come together to create something which entertains us and encourages us to nip out into the snow in a knitted sweater!
The man behind the luxury images full of Christmas atmosphere is the talented photographer Alasdair McLellan. The Holiday 2017 collection is full of daring and colourful knitwear in the form of sweaters, hats and gloves. Cara Delevingne can also be seen wearing a PVC cape, luxurious cashmere scarves, the DK88 mini handbag, a shopping bag with a red check design and trainers with a tartan pattern. Matt Smith was among other things dressed in a luxury, oversized multicoloured woollen scarf or a trench coat with the immortal Burberry check pattern.
The brand’s creative director, Christopher Bailey, will be leaving his post at the start of next year. He will be doing so after a long and above all successful period of seventeen years spent with the luxury Burberry fashion house. Cara Delevingne thanked him from the bottom of her heart for being able to be part of this playful campaign.
The Burberry Christmas campaign literally got me dancing despite the tired expression on Cara Delevingne’s face. She comes across to me as if she is on her last legs and her hair looks as if she had it cut to shoot a film about World War Two.
Although the iconic beige coat or scarf with the cult Burberry design won’t surprise anyone, without them it just wouldn’t be Burberry! I like the red Scottish tartan pattern a lot as this really does evoke a warm Christmas mood in me. Items like that are guaranteed to keep you warm at the Christmas market on the Old Town Square. Livening things up with distinctive brooches and huge safety pins provides the ingenious icing on the cake!
All that remains is to say that I don’t understand why a lot of contemporary campaigns are turning to the past. Of course, the hit by the Pet Shop Boys is amazing and the shots which look as if they were taken using a retro camera are interesting, but is there really nothing to contemporary to choose from nowadays?!
