At the start, from 1916, BMW specialised in production of aircraft engines. The car plant in Munich opened in 1920, where it is based to this very day, but the company did not enter the car manufacturing industry until 1928 and did not start to produce its own cars until 1931. Its first car was the Dixi 3/15.
A long time has passed since then and BMW has developed into a manufacturer of luxury cars, engines and motorcycles. It has also sponsored many cultural and fashion events and cooperates very closely with fashion designers.
The latest achievement of the car manufacturer is the BMW M5. The BMW designers have, as is their way, not embarked on any ground-breaking design revolution. The new car is synonymous with elegance, precision, simple stylish design and state-of-the-art functionality. Those things which each and every driver appreciates most about BMW cars.
The interior of the car may however give you a very nice surprise. The central display stands out from the dashboard and the centre console in the cockpit contains smart buttons which the user can use to immediately access the required information. Luxury BMW cars were created to set trends in on-board electronics. The overall interior is very spacious and the driver can enjoy the typical sporty driving position.
The car is able to park itself and to receive information from other BMWs about ice on the road or obstacles in its path. The car excels in its extremely low noise level.
BMW should surprise us in 2017 with a sports version of the electric i3 S. As compared to the existing version, the main changes should be made in the interior and the car should certainly be equipped with wider tyres.
Thanks to the superlative designs and strength of the brand, BMW cars have found their way onto the silver screen several times as side-kicks to film heroes. In 1999, a BMW Z8 was seen in the film The World is not Enough, the 19th Bond film in 1999 staring Pierce Brosnan. The luxury BMW E35 M5 was seen alongside Robert DeNiro in the film Ronin and Jason Statham drove a black BMW 735i in the role of Frank Martin in the Transporter.
And if that were not enough, the brand itself has started to get involved in film production. This concerns short films in which none other than luxury BMW cars star alongside famous actors. For more about the project, see www.bmwfilms.com.
