Hundreds of luxurious brands will introduce their newest models at the fair; and many of the brands have been preparing for this unique show for over six month. Let’s have a look at a world where time is measured in style and luxury.
Baselworld takes place every year just after winter. In early spring, this elegant town welcomes representatives of the most recognized brands of watches and jewels. On average, the fair is attended by 2000 exhibitors from over 45 countries. The fair is not limited to watches and jewels, it also showcases companies specializing in precious stones. About 95 000 people visit the fair each year.
Let’s have a look at the history of the event. It is almost unbelievable that the first Baselworld took place 100 years ago. At that time it was called Schweizer Mustermesse Basel and included only a small section dedicated to jewels and watches.
It was only in 1972 that manufacturers from other countries, such as France, Italy, Germany and Great Britain, were invited to the fair. In 1983 the fair got one part of its present name – it was called Basel 86.
The current name of Baselworld dates back to 2003. Over time, the fair became increasingly popular and the capacity of the original exhibit hall was no longer sufficient. It had to be extended and in 2004 a new complex with a floor size of 160,000 m2 was introduced.
The list of brands that will appear at Baselworld includes names such as: Rolex, Hublot, Patek Phillipe, Tag Heuer, Omega, Panerai and Tudor. Other luxurious brands not primarily specialized in watches and jewels, such as Versace, Gucci or Armani, are also an integral part of the fair.
A daily pass costs 60 CHF (approximately 1,500 CZK) and tickets for the whole show cost 150 CHF (approximately 3,800 CZK).
