Ice queens from space White make-up, ice-cold expressions, extravagant glasses, and eccentric outfits that look as if they’re from another galaxy. That was the sight available to the audience during the luxury fashion show Balmain Haute Couture Spring 2019. The young designer managed to instill a completely different form to the collection, and interconnect history of the fashion brand with the present.

Rebirth, renaissance – those are the words hidden at the centre of the collection Haute Couture. Olivier Rousteing reminds us with his outfits, that the return to high tailoring has to be in style, and that is why the elements of purity and elegance are used throughout the whole collection Spring 2019. What of the fact that his Haute Couture models often have to surpass the limits of wearability? Their prophecy is stronger!
Time for bowling?
The shape of a pearl was the form of Balmain’s dresses, skirts, and head coverings or bracelets. The models, that didn’t receive the honour of wearing these outfits, carried a pearl like a luxury bowling ball. Did the brand Balmain find a new use for it during the Paris Fashion Week?
The undersea world according to Balmain
Apart from the pearl, the luxury French brand also incorporated the form of a shell. What does the undersea world look like according to Balmain? It’s full of extravagant tops, pants and airy luxury robes of untraditional forms!
Uncontrollable volume
Elements of the undersea world are defined by trendy metallic colours, large volume and holographic outfits in the Haute Couture collection. Those are the elements that we are used to from the brand Balmain. Hauture Couture Spring 2019 will surely provoke a lot of questions, but one this is for sure, Olivier Rousteing displayed a collection that will remain in the world’s memory for a very long time!

Although Haute Couture most of the time offers unwearability, Balmain included a number of exemplars that are perfectly wearable. Among these ‘gifts’ we may include the powder pink plaid overall with a mother-of-pearl belt or a white mini-dress complemented with a long asymmetrical jacket, and a futuristic hat. It’s perhaps a bit too much for this city, but it’s ideal for a few games at a Monte Carlo casino! Or perhaps a yacht club.
I wasn’t, however, much impressed by the ruffled robe dress revealing one of the breasts. Although ‘scandalous’, it doesn’t inspire with anything. However, the overall impression of the entire collection for me is absolutely positive!!! Bravo!
