The artist Marek Slavík: from the Czech village Málkov to the exhibition halls of Tokyo
Marek Slavík is an artist who works not far from Beroun, in the small village of Málkov. He escaped the capital city into the peace of an atelier, where he creates masterpieces worthy of world exhibitions.
His paintings are on display in galleries and private collections all over the world. From Germany, England, Italy, to New York, Los Angeles to exhibitions in Tokyo, where he represented the Czech Republic at the Embassy, and at the gallery Roppongi. He is the owner of many international awards.
The works of Marek Slavík excel by their purity and a simplicity, which however doesn’t depreciate.
They are a great addition to modern interiors, they’ll really uplift a pure space free of redundant decorations. The paintings don’t have a coldness about them, and they take their attention without force.
The brilliant paintings of Marek Slavík will remind you of waves, smoke or clouds. Whatever you imagine, your perception will always be correct:
‘If I told the viewer, what is on the painting, I would shut him from the doors of his self. The paintings become complete only thanks to their viewer, and primarily in the viewer himself’
It takes one month to create a painting, sometimes longer. He summarized the creation process in the following few sentences:
‘I always start with a model. I model a basic motif, which I then photograph in different surroungings. Lately, the surrounding is an aquarium with water and inks. The environment in water changes quickly, therefore it’s important to capture the given moment with a camera. I easily make thousands of photographs, from which only one captures the idea I was looking for. Then I make one ore more trial sketches, and decide, whether the painting is a prospective one. The final step is to paint.’
