The ArtEZ fashion design academy, founded 65 years ago by Dutch fashion legend Ella Lamaker, gave the fashion world luxury designers Viktor & Rolf and Iris Van Herpen. This year, the graduates of this prestigious school presented their SS19 collections at MBPFW. Might there be a new rising star among them?!

The luxurious fashion show, presented under the supervision of Rachid Naas – independent expert, curator, member of the Amsterdam Fashion Week committee and co-founder of the Dutch Fashion Council – revealed the unique works of 3 designer duos and 2 independent designers.
The controversial MAISON the FAUX studio celebrates with plastic bags!
While the female designer duo Schepers Bosman presented a fairly simple collection based on blue and denim, the creative MAISON the FAUX studio bet on luxurious extravagance instead. The brand celebrated its five-year anniversary with garments made of plastic bags and some seriously controversial items.
Lisa Konno bet on neon, Peet Dullaert on a wet look
Young designer Lisa Konno presented a summer collection full of neon maxi models in shades of yellow, pink, orange, red and blue. Peet Dullaert stylised his models into a wet look. The minimalist midi and maxi outfits in gentle warm colours were accessorised with massive, luxurious jewels.
Crazy game of colours
The last collection belonged to designer duo Diek Pothoven and Luuk Kuijf, working under the common brand MARTAN. The designers presented an unconventional and crazy play of materials, cuts and colours.
The global scale of this year’s Prague Fashion Week promised a higher level of extravagance, boldness and dynamics. The prestigious ArtEZ academy offered precisely that, although at times it felt like a different planet…

Every mini collection is an entirely different style!
At first, I found the show by the ArtEz design rather chaotic. Perhaps this was because one had to absorb several mini collections at once. Or maybe it’s because every collection was so different from the other. Because I don’t want to complicate things too much, let’s first summarise the top moments and save the most bizarre stuff EVER for the end!
The dresses by Peet Dullaert were a pleasant surprise. I particularly like the aluminium grey one, which was super shiny and had a very interesting cut. It was unconventional, but I could easily imagine even the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton wearing it. My other favourite was the trouser suit in sunny yellow with the cascading brooch by MARTAN. This outfit can be worn day or night. It’s simply irresistible!
And now about the bizarre stuff. The worst combination to be presented was the sort of plastic red-and-white outfit by MAISON the FAUX. Maybe they should rename the whole thing “MAISON the Faux Pas”, because all of their outfits are pure Slytherin! Hasn’t the fight against plastic etc. all around us had any impact on the co-owner Joris Suk? How sad...
