We bet that upon hearing the word "spa", not many of you would think of Romania of all places. But it's where one of the first spas in the world was founded! In addition to the great Romanian baths, we'd also like to share a tip for a wellness centre in a Renaissance complex in Spain or amidst the beautiful Irish mountains.
You'll love this place! Hotel Minerva is located in the middle of Baile Herculane in the Cerna Valley, which is considered to be one of the oldest spa resorts in the world! The city is famous for its healing hot springs, rich on minerals, and Minerva belongs to the oldest and best hotels in the area. All rooms offer stunning views of the Romanian mountains, and you can choose from a wide a range of treatments. Swimming pools, saunas, Turkish baths, jacuzzi, salt sauna as well as bio sauna are prepared for your enjoyment. You can also try out the so-called Kneipp therapy, which is based on the alternation of hot and cold water on your legs and it also uses various stone bases in the pools. As a result, the treatment acts similar to acupuncture or reflexology.
The door of the ordinary world has just closed behind you and what lies ahead is an ultimate experience. Castilla Termal is located in a 16th-century Renaissance building that used to be a university back in the day. Its flawless interior combines elements of history and modern style, as evidenced by the contemporary facades contrasting with the glass dome in the middle. And that's where you'll find the luxury spa. Back in the past, thermal healing water was discovered here, with the temperature of 18.7 °C. The spring was named after the former Santa Catalina University. You can relax in the pool under a stream of water, have a Turkish bath and enjoy a range of treatments, including beauty treatments or massages.
Ireland isn't exactly a country renowned for being the place to relax either. Farnham Estate, located 3 km from Cavan, can easily tear down this myth though! Spreading over 1,300 acres of land you'll find a luxury resort, a spa center, an 18-hole golf course and lovely forest paths. What impressed us the most, thought, was the spectacular spa, which features a varied sauna experience, including a steam sauna, a mud chamber or an ice fountain. And have you already seen the luxurious infinity pool? It would be amazing to switch off and enjoy this place for a couple of days!
