The art of luxury air tricks and pieces

The name itself tells us what acro paragliding is all about. Acrobatic paragliding is a young branch of paragliding, which has evolved from figures for safety testing of the gliders. This sport is based on the nature of freestyle. Little creativity and rich skills often give rise to new manoeuvres. It looks as if the pilots glided in heavenly heights, often performing head over heels in the air, touching Earthy objects.

There is no doubt that acro is more dangerous than ordinary paragliding. Acrobatic 'pilots' are always perfectly trained, nothing can be left to chance. They have extensive experience and specially-developed wing, with which they seek to overcome their limits.

Acro paragliding is popular

There is even a world cup for acro paragliding enthusiasts. There are 4 to 6 competitions. The first world championship was held in 2006 in Switzerland. The International Aviation Federation (FAI) holds a world championship every two years. The competition is in flying solo or synchronised acrobatics. In our conditions this sport is hard to perform. The only suitable terrain for acrobatics is Černá hora (transl. Monte Negro) near Jánské Lázně. In the Czech Republic acro competitions are not held at all due to inadequate terrains and the small number of acro pilots.

What does it look like in practice?

If you are absolute newcomers or have only the basic licence, you should spend months, if not years, training the appropriate skills under the leadership of an experienced trainer and it would be best above water, before you can safely switch to acro. When you become more confident you can start to train spirals and wingovers and other essential things. Periodic training is essential, as well as the building of a solid mentor relationship with the instructor.
