The 60th jubilee of the festival Smetana's Litomyšl 14.6. - 7.7.2018
The center of events – Chateau Litomyšl
The center of festival events is the luxurious complex of the State Chateau Litomyšl, which was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999. The main parts of the musical event will take place in the second courtyard of the chateau with a unique retractable roofing, in the chateau's riding hall, and in the Smetana House, as well as in other parts of the Pardubice Region.
The accompanying program entitled Festival Gardens will take place in the luxurious area of the Monastery Gardens in Litomyšl. Garden visitors will hear both classical music and genre overlays in jazz, swing and popular music. The music festival is supported by the town of Litomyšl and the Pardubice region in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, the National Monument Institute, the State Chateau Litomyšl, and the Bohemian Heritage Fund.
Music master Bedřich Smetana left us a valuable legacy
This exceptional festival pays tribute to a world-renowned artist, maintains his tradition and strives to educate on classical music across the republic.
Bedřich Smetana was a prominent Czech music composer of the romantic era. Since early childhood, he was devoted to music, especially to playing and composing on the piano. Since 1946, a great festival of classical music is held in the birthplace of the founder of the Czech national music, Bedřich Smetana, in the ancient East Bohemian city of Litomyšl, and you mustn't miss it.
All the best Czech artists and a small diversification in the form of foreign guests
The main program events will be opera productions, concert performances of operas, but also gala concerts, oratories, cantatas and song evenings, in which vocal art is dominant. Fans of symphonic, instrumental, chamber music, ballet, and other genres that transcend to other disciplines will also be satisfied. The most prestigious artists, all 3 national theaters, major orchestras, choirs, conductors, soloists and instrumentalists will also perform at the festival. Foreign guests will not be an exception and will support and diversify the already packed festival program. We are looking forward to the international musical stars Katia Ricciarelli, Sherill Milnes, Oskan Dyka, Sumi Jo, Marcello Giordani, and others.
Luxurious surprises
Every year, the organizers prepare a surprise for us. This year it is the performance of singer Jaromír Nohavica with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra and the rock band –123 minutes with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
